Tim Conway Jr. to 790 KABC

I hope they don't muzzle him and force him to do the cookie cutter show like everyone else on KABC. I hope he can do his funny bits.

Has he done a lot of radio in LA? I remember him on a show called "On The Television" that ran on Nick At Nite, I'll bet, 20 years ago. It was sort of a "Siskel & Ebert" takeoff that did reviews of fake TV shows, and it was pretty good.

He has 12 years under his belt doing his former show on KLSX. He was there since the beginning of 97.1 flipping to Talk.

Also, I hope Steckler comes back. Not a Whitman fan at all.

""Al Rantel is my favorite radio personality in Los Angeles and I'm honored to sit in while he's recovering," Conway wrote in a e-mail. "Once Al's back on his feet I'll probably end up doing podcasts with that lunatic ex-partner of mine at www.brianwhitman.com.""

(A) Here's hoping its permanent. (B) here's hoping they hire Whitman back to partner with him,

Is Leykis next?

Re Leykis: God! I hope not.

His stint at regular talk on KFI was not memorable and I doubt that KABC would benefit from his misogynistic persona.

Tim Conway on the other hand could be a plus and it appears that Al Rantel's illnesses and other problems are putting him on the sidelines a lot so a replacement may become inevitable.

Douglas Steckler from South Dakota is a radio stud.

Tim Conway Jr. is shown the door at KABC.
In record time, Timmy was fired twice in only two short weeks from an FM and then an AM stick.
He's appearing Tuesday (3/10) @ 8:45a with Sam Rubin on KTLA to play the joke from Friday that got him canned at KABC.

He is/was scheduled for 3 appearances on KCAL-9 at 8:30p, 9:30p and 10:30p Tuesday night
I think KCAL was expecting to interview him as he was airing on KABC so no idea if that is still on.

Citadel is spineless and any rumors about KLSX talent popping up on KABC is pretty much null at this point.
KABC seems to enjoy being an also-ran talk station.

KABC is not the right place for him. I heard him last week. Did not think that he fit and would not even at KFI. I was wondering why he wasn't on tonight. Plenty of comments on his site from fans. http://timconwayjr.com/newsite/?p=237

Of course, he wasn't a fit at KABC. He wasn't a fit for the person he was filling in for but I actually tuned into KABC last week and that's something I haven't been able to say since... ever. Okay, I think I listened to Larry Elder during the OJ Era a couple of whirls years ago but I'd be hard pressed to name anyone on that station other than Ken Levine (and that's only because I read his blog regularly, I've never heard his show).

Needless to say, Bob Moore may not be able to rise the mythical Phoenix from the ashes of a cold dead KABC. I wish him luck, but I won't be listening to the resurrection if it ever occurs.

I am not sure that Tim Conway should "fit" KABC. More like KABC needs to find a different fit for the station which should be why Citadel brought Hall and Moore on board. They now have the advantage of Dodgers Baseball that will get more dials tuned to 790 but unless they have something attractive around it what good is it.

I had hopes that the "New KABC" would knock KFI down a notch or two and regain it's former preeminence in the market as a talk station. For one thing I think that the old "let's go to the phones" programs belong back in Dayton Ohio, not in Los Angeles. There is some place for audience participation but how much do you hear John and Ken or Handel going to the phones.

Tim Conway had the potential to be the nucleus of a programming concept that could build a new better station. Not FM-Talk redux but a new format taking elements from 97.1, KFI and building a new house upon those foundations. The people who did both formats are on board, they had potential talent but the train wrecked before getting even a mile from the depot. I think they have a vastly unappreciated talent in the mornings which could be shaped in the right hands (Hall and Moore). They may be stuck with Savage Lite (Mark Levin) and Limbaugh Lite (Hannity) but that is no reason to pass on the rest of the day.

I want to think that management on a higher plateau did the dirty deed and not the two people who should have given Tim Conway the freedom to get them off the back burner in LA radio.

This is definately KABC's loss.

Just because a few old biddies called up the management complaining doesn't mean that KABC had to cave in, particularly so quickly. If management wanted cookie cutter conservative talking heads then they should not have even hired Conway. Bob Moore knew exactly the type of show that Tim would do, so why the surprise and why the shock. Give me a break.

KABC needs to turn into a Spanish Banda music station. See how the old biddies react then.

That's why when I saw him filling in for Rantel I scratched my head. I knew it wouldn't last. This proves how laughable the idea of any of the ex-KLSX talent landing at KABC or KLOS is. It doesn't fit in with what Citadel does.

It certainly is not laughable for the FM but is for the AM. I had a good laugh when I read Richard Wagoner's story in the Daily Breeze this past week when the thought something was up at KABC that would include ex KLSXers after Conway was selected to fill Rantel's shift while he recoperates.
