KMPC's programming is the worst; satellite-fed sport talk (out of Chicago) and informercials.
A good friend of mine works for KMPC and I told him that, at one time, it was one of the top-rated stations in LA. He said, "Well, you know, AM is dead". I said "No, the station you work for is."
As I understand it, The Ticket is owned by Paul Allen (the Microsoft king) who has a number of stations with similar programming. So I doubt KMPC's format will change.
It's interesting that someone mentioned a return to KPOL in stereo. I found an old reel-to-reel tape of Percy Faith (a KPOL staple) going back to 1963 and played it through my Alfredo-Lite AM stereo transmitter. It sounded great! It seems the recording engineers of that era, despite the limited technology of the time, really understood stereo and how to mic for it.
I think it would be fun to bring back KPOL in AMS. As I understand it, there is an audience for what is termed, 'Space Age Pop' or 'Deep Lounge.'
