Tim Parker gets the boot @ The Ticket

As if anyone cares (or listens) to this station...Tim Parker, Program Director at 1540 The Ticket is out as of the end of the year.

It's about time!

So you're saying you think he did NOT leave on his own accord???
What kind of #s does this station get anyway in their demo because they've never made one book in 12+ have they?

I would think that his (lack of ratings) performance speaks for itself then, doesn't it?

Let me ask it this way - would YOU continue to pay this guy over 100K a year for the (lack of) listeners he has given you?

They average under 7000 listeners per quarter hour - pathetic for a 50,000 watt station!

Yes, and in 1960's AM Stereo too. Who else did that?

The Ticket is OK

Looking at his picture in LARadio.com, he sure is a big guy!!
Maybe it WOULD be appropriate if Joe McDonnell would be the guy to sit in Tim's old chair.

What's even MORE pathetic is their signal. Their programming is OK, Tony Bruno is not chopped liver IMO.
But their signal... :sigh: .... Fair in the daytime throughout Orange County where I live, but too much QRM from KASA Phoenix especially at sunset when KMPC reduces to 10,000 watts, where in my north Orange County Brea office, at 4:45 pm they cut power and immediately get stepped on hugely by this Phoenix station (Spanish language) which BTW is supposed to reduce from 10,000 watts down to 19 WATTS but cheats and does not reduce for maybe another hour. But that's OK because then that Hermosillo Mexican station "La Poderosa" (XEHOS) with their supposed 5,000 watts from around 600 miles from LA interferes heavily throughout the night, making KMPC virtually unlistenable throughout Orange County, and eastern LA County!

XETRA?

If you mean the AM - FM stereo experiments, WDOK AM ^FM in Cleveland trid that inthe early 60's. That was where one channel was on AM and the other on FM, and you set two radios on either side of the room. More fun than a CONELRAD test.

AM Stereo KPOL

I remember when KGBS did something like that at sign off, what a goof Dave Hull was!. You had to mention they were in a mortuary, creepy. The only other AM Stereo station in L.A. might have been KBRT out of Avalon when they were Contemporary , doing the off frequency stereo thing!

KMPC's programming is the worst; satellite-fed sport talk (out of Chicago) and informercials.

A good friend of mine works for KMPC and I told him that, at one time, it was one of the top-rated stations in LA. He said, "Well, you know, AM is dead". I said "No, the station you work for is."

As I understand it, The Ticket is owned by Paul Allen (the Microsoft king) who has a number of stations with similar programming. So I doubt KMPC's format will change.

It's interesting that someone mentioned a return to KPOL in stereo. I found an old reel-to-reel tape of Percy Faith (a KPOL staple) going back to 1963 and played it through my Alfredo-Lite AM stereo transmitter. It sounded great! It seems the recording engineers of that era, despite the limited technology of the time, really understood stereo and how to mic for it.

I think it would be fun to bring back KPOL in AMS. As I understand it, there is an audience for what is termed, 'Space Age Pop' or 'Deep Lounge.'

Re: The Ticket is OK

I listened while driving through LA to the
Chargers-Redskins game on Sunday. There
were numerous technical glitches and mis-timed
stop sets, along with an annoying Ticket liner
with a music bed that actually drowned out
the play by play voice several times.

As opposed to The Fabulous 690 lounge...more
swank appeal...KPOL had that big 2 story
industrial building in Hollywood that KZLA
later occupied.
