Time Change and unusual AM DX

With the upcoming time change which occurs this weekend, can we expect some unusual AM DX from glitches in the timing of switching from day to night or critical hours pattern? Has anyone noticed unusual AM DX right after a time change either in the spring or fall?

Several days ago I noticed 760 KFMB switching patterns an hour early. I haven't checked since yesterday, though, to see if they were switching early.

Tonight I was getting KONA, KGOW, KKYX, and others due to the earlier sunset time.

I wouldn't be surprised if you get some good DX right before the time change.

Yes, each year, since 2007 I've noticed that some pattern and power changes are still on the traditional DST start and stop dates.

This morning I was about 50 miles east of Orlando and I was picking up WPSL 1590 out of Port St. Lucie,FL, their automated system apparently was on the old DST schedule and made the switch at 0630 this morning, which will be correct effective this Sunday.

Also received WOKC out of Okeechobee,FL shortly after 0630 as well and they were obviously not on their 12 watt night time power which doesn't even cover all of the city limits of Okeechobee.

Also shortly after 0645 under WBT, 1110, Charlotte I was picking up two stations, one of which I am pretty sure was WTIS St. Petersburg.

I know last year, at this time of the year another local station was signing off an hour early for a few days, an automated religious/brokered station, which I guess depends on a wrongly programmed computer to sign on and off.

st. petersburg,fl

EVen back in the day, it didn't dawn on many stations that the clocks reset, not the sun. From the last Sunday in October to the last day of October in the 70s, I'd recieve WPRT in Prestonsburg, KY on 960 loud and clear in Ohio, as they signed off at the incorrect time. A few years ago I got WGR in Buffalo over WKRC north of Dayton at 5:30am the first Monday after "spring forward".

This week I am noticing something unusual. Local AM talker WPIT 730, when they gear down
to 24 watts, is getting absolutely overpowered by WTNT from Washington, DC.

This has never happened before. Interference on WPIT is generally late night and coming in
French from Canada. It actually puts a pretty impressive signal into my house on less than
25 watts.

If the pattern and power change is controlled by a computer controlled clock, it may automatically reset a week early because it is programmed for the old DST "fall back" date. I have an alarm clock that does that, and just did a few days ago. I'll have to reset it again this weekend.
