Time For 106.7 To Unplug The Fan?

I just saw the latest numbers on DCRTV.com... WTEM's on their way up, while WJFK is going down, down, down. Previously, they were about neck and neck, but I see where WTEM's individual shows are now ranked in the top 10, while WJFK's are between 12th and 17th place. I realize WTEM has the Redskins games (as the team's owner owns the station) but that's no excuse... This is football season. When your ratings start to come undone during this period, it could be quite hard to recover.

I say once WJFK starts slipping into the 20's, it's time for CBS to blow it up and turn it into a CHR ("Now 106.7," anyone?) to compete with Hot 99.5, which is quietly running away with the market (with the exception of WTOP, of course).

106.7 could just turn off the IBUZ machine and let their own Mix 106.5 compete with Hot 99.5 in DC.

Nah, 106.5 was always unlistenable in most of the market, even before HD.

Wasn't 106.7 doing far better as FM Talk??

There hasn't been much of a change. WJFK was already under a 2-share as a talker.

I'm really surprised WTEM is doing as well as they are. I guess the Redskins were more competitive this year than last, but I don't think I've seen WTEM in the 3-share range ever before.

I do think WJFK sounds a lot better than WTEM, but it goes to show you how important actually carrying the games is to the promotion of the rest of the station. As long as WTEM is owned by the Redskins, they'll have that advantage. I really thought the 106.7 signal would give WJFK an advantage vs. 3 spotty signals (that, combined, admittedly cover more area than 106.7 does alone, but still...).
