Time for Bob Rivers & Americana/Classic Rock

O&A.....NOT!!!
Bring in Bob Rivers with an Americana/Classic Rock hybrid.
Kinda like Eagle on Friday nights.....only add Kinky Friedman, John Prine, Loudon Wainright, and a few others.
Develope local music....make them stars(they did it with the nontalent Madonna) and make them exclusive to the station. Don't let them play ANYWHERE else in the market.
How 'bout a morning breakfast show? Live, every morning, with bacon & eggs (or tofu )a live, studio band, and maybe Christopher Rude/Beth Kepple as hosts?
How about "Gameshow" afternoons with dialin' for dollars and other such nonsense. Contests seem to drive cumes....give the suckas' what they want.

i'm with you, tom!! kinda like the new lone star 92.5 in dallas, but less twangy. some ian moore, jonny lang, sun volt, wilco, little feat, wet willie, ah i could go on and on.

and make sure they put it online so i can listen.

Americana just may work very well here...

Although it was a bit twangy at times, the folks who ran and did 1170 before it was sold to 1160 did a great job with the format and had a following in the Forsyth county area.

Atlanta does NOT need another country or classic rock station of any kind. Enough already! What I would like to hear is a radio station that programs to the adult audience with contemporary standards. Music by the new artist's doing standards along with some of the classic's in the mix. For example, Michael Buble', Jane Monheit,Chris Botti and Rod Stewart,(now doing standards) along with Sinatra, Nat Cole and Tony Bennett. Nobody is doing this and what a refreshing sound it would be. We have enough 50 plus listeners that are not being served today and most have money to spend on advertising. The format could be on AM or FM it does not matter. 50 plus will listen as most grew up on AM anyway. FM would be better of course but WGST 640 am would be wise to give it a try. What have they got to lose? I remember when 680 AM was Stardust 680 and that station would be another that has nothing to lose either. We don't need to sports stations. Why not do something that nobody else is doing. Thoughts?

Yes.....50+ listeners need an outlet. But I doubt the artists you mentioned would serve that demo. Sinatra?? That would be more 65 to dead demo!!
I agree that there is no need for ANY traditional format, be it country, classic rock, sports etc.
What we DO need is station/corperate leadership who understand showbiz and exactly how advertising works!
These two fundamentals are really not understood well by most radio GM's/PD's.
Being a geek/nerd, I am generally wrong about most things radio. But to make $$$$ there must be listeners and businesses wanting to advertise products/services to these listeners. And to get listeners there must be something of interest, be it music or conversatation.
I think a wild arse country/americana format would kick aarse.....

Now Sinatra is "cool" and I disagree with ya Tom. I think it would work. The Great American Song Book will never go out of style. BTW 1170 the original WMLB in Cumming was not a money maker when it was Americana. When Billy Corey bought the station it was in the hole.

I am with Tom, his idea is just crazy enough to work! Think about it. Wiether is pop, a/c or rap, every station is playing the exact same song with the exact same format rotation and deliver in the exact same way by a jock who sounds just like everyone else. An americana station would be a great idea and have talent who sounds different and unique from the other stations and themselves!

What we need is engineers who can spell corporate. C-O-R-P-O-R-A-T-E.
But in the world of Americana.....there is no coporate(or cor-per-ate)....only the fine American male cultural experience we all desire. The only green in this format is mary-jan-ju-wana! Sex, beer, dope, and the music of culture.....a fine American experience.
Bob Rivers will put a doobie in every morning......
