Time for Don Bailey to go

So in case you missed, there are comments from Miami Hurricanes Radio Network color guy Don Bailey in today's Tampa Tribune:

http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/may/08/college-announcers-walk-fine-line/?sports-colleges-seminoles

about Peter Willis being fired as color announcer for the Seminoles because he criticized Jeff Bowden too much.

The comments from Don about trying to not be too much of a homer strike me as ludicrous given that Don was noted last season for making comments such as "Another quality performance from Kirby Freeman, we may have lost, but he's getting valuable experience as the Hurricanes gear up for a second-half run at the ACC title" or "Joe Tolliver needs to work on his hands, and he'll be a shoe-in for the Heisman Trophy."

Look, we can all agree that the Miami Hurricanes color guy post has been a disaster the last few years, with Bailey's predecessor encouraging the players to fight with the FIU guys, and Bailey's horrid "the sun is always shining" comments.

It's time for the Hurricanes brass to throw in the towel and give Bernie Kosar whatever money he wants to take over as color guy. I know he slurs his words and has an uncontrollable tick with his left leg constantly twitching due to nerve damage, but if you've listened to him do color on Cleveland Browns pre-season games, you know he's one of the best color guys in the biz and is able to break down defenses and what went wrong on a play.

Maybe instead of throwing away money on Donna Shalala, they could throw some money towards Bernie.

Absolutely Not!

Joe Zagacki and DBJ may not be the best broadcast team compared with PT Willis & Gene Deckerhoff or Mick Hubert and Lee McGriff, but ok, they're homers.

Don Bailey Jr. is the guy that leads the Cane Nation with a big pre-game pep rally every time he comes on. DBJ is very knowledgeable and could give objective commentary if he was on a different broadcast, but Canes fans don't want objective. We want real Canes faithful who root for our team and who better than DBJ. He's a former player, has a nat'l championship ring, and he knows his history of the team and he knows the game

So what if he pumps up the players. He's just like the other Canes' fans drinking the orange and green kool aid every year.

DBJ is a fan favorite, and if you don't like hearing him, then turn it off.

Canes's fans are grown to appreciate this broadcast team. When we win, they are fans just like we are.
