Time for Lamey's Retirement

Bob Lamey - PLEASE CLEAR YOUR THROAT! Tired of hearing him sound like he just woke up from a nap before game time!

While once a great sports broadcaster, is just plain bad. He's either too old (happens to the best of us) or has just gotten to the point where he's too comfortable. He's VERY negative even on the most minor Colt mistakes, and has a very lousy attitude when things aren't going right.

Let ME make the decision whether I should be pissed, happy, upset, etc. I don't need the announcer WHINING and CRYING about bad calls, bad plays, etc.

Great EXAMPLE of this was the first playoff game against Baltimore when Garcon chased down an interception and forced a fumble. On the initial interception you would have thought the game was over based on Lamey's LAME call. THEN he got excited when Garcon popped the ball out. HOWEVER, after the NFL network used Lamey's call initially, they HAD to change it for the highlight to the BALTIMORE announcers because they called it LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED WITH NO HOMER EMOTIONS.

He's a home-team guy, I get that, but USE SOME PROFESSIONALISM and QUIT CRYING. Just TELL ME what's going on - you sound like the obnoxious uncle that can't shut up and stop complaining while the game is in progress, but when they win, you're the biggest fan in the world!

Radioho, I can't disagree with you one Lamey but did you just start listening to him yesterday? He bitched, whined and cried constantly all the years he did the Pacers and in the 70's when he was the voice of the Racer's hockey team. It isn't something new.

I've listened for many years. Thought it was a mistake to bring him back after McConnell was pushed aside when Q95 lost its deal.

Lots of people loved him as "hockey Bob" and many love him doing the Colts games. Some thought McConnell was too clinical. It's just a matter of personal preference.

The Colts broadcasts got a lot better when Ted Marchibroda was pushed out of the color chair. Lamey's moaning does get on my nerves sometimes, but when things are going well, I like listening to him.

My problem (and it might not be Bob's doing) is the countless "mentions". 3 mentions between the start of the time out to the first ad. At times the games are a parody of a long-ago Bob and Tom skit. I have listened to other games (I have Sirius) and the ones I have listened to, while they do have some mentions, are not nearly as bad as the Colts game broadcast. Lamey is a kick. The same way Harry Carey was in Chicago. You know he is going to go overboard, but compared to the CBS crews (which have NYC homers of their own) I will take him.

Uhh, no. He is NO Harry Carey. That's going WAY too far. He's a local yocal. I get why they hired him, and respect what he's done with his career. But he is NO WAY even close to Harry Carey. Harry was a national/international one-of-a-kind.

I gotta say, I like Lamey. I was a fan of his back when he did sports with Bob Simpson in the afternoons on 1070 WIBC.

Yeah he's a homer, and thats why I listen. He gets upset, or happy, depending on the game situation, just like a fan would.

I listened to Joe Buck on Fox announce the Saints/Vikes game. It was like taking an audio valium.

Gimme Bob any day! ;D

Agreed. As a die-hard Cubs fan that is a huge insult to Harry, who never was afraid to criticize the Cubs (and they usually deserved it). Lamey is horrible. I liked Joe McConnell when I could hear Colts games on WOWO years ago.

Not a proud moment on the call of the late Saints' interception. The Monday national radio sports shows repeatedly "compared" Lamey's monotone call with the wild hysterics of the same play on WWL New Orleans.
It was hilarious at first, but then sad when it kept being repeated again and again and again - nationally.
