Time for VOA & BBC to return to REAL SW

It was reported today that the BBC has been banished fromt's FM broadcasts in Russia wffective immediately. AM-SW is needed now as it was in the '60's with the Castro takeover. Putin is no friend of Freedom.

The US & Brits have been shortsighted in their tearing down SW arrays worldwide. Freedom needs a voice. A voice needs a carrier.

Is it time to revive Radio Free Europe?
 
This thread probably belongs on the DX board, or maybe even Off The Air.

But in any case, VOA (I haven't had time to check the BBC yet) broadcasts 6 hours a day in Russian (1300-1900 GMT), but that is a far cry from their Cold War schedule.

VOA's purpose is to transmit the American gummint's point of view to people in countries that are considered either enemies of the U.S. or other stragegic locations where we have an interest. The emphasis is on the Middle East and Asia now, not eastern Europe. They still broadcast 18 hours a day in Chinese, but interestinlgy, nothing in Farsi (for Iran).
