TIME OF BCN/MIX 104.1 FLIP TOMORROW? (8/11)

Apologies if this information is elsewhere... could someone (possibly "in the know" if need be) tell me the exact time the flip will happen tomorrow? I would very much like to record it. Thanks in advance.

If I heard correctly, BCN lives on until 12:00 a.m. on 8/12, when Bradley Jay will flip the switch.

So, is that just after 11:59:59pm on 8/11, or just before 12:00:01am on 8/13? :-\
I hate that ambiguity: Midnite events should be timed to either 11:59:59pm or 12:00:01am to avoid such confusion!

It is the former, just as stated. From what I understand, WBMX moves to 104.1 at that time. Meanwhile, either stunting or a simulcast will begin on 98.5, which will continue until Thursday afternoon when WBZ-FM will debut with Patriots pre-game coverage.

Might as well be Bradley J ... He helped kill the station.
His cheap imitation of Stern around '93, 94 sucked big time.
What did he caLL HIS SHOW? THE Pleasure Palace or something like that?
sucks as a talk show host too.

"The Sex Palace" was the name of the short-lived night show. Lasted a year or so (maybe?), then they put Stern on at night in 1993.

I just contacted Mix. The person answering the general information line said that Mix will probably start somewhere between midnight and 2. BCN is signing off at midnight. Then, there will most likely be a little bit of transmitter tweaking with Mix coming in after that.

"Use Somebody" by Kings Of Leon opens Mix 104.1 WBMX @ 2AM ET on Wed. 8/12/2009 followed by "The Old Apartment" by Barenaked Ladies.

Yes, and 98.5 is running continuous promos for "Mix 104.1", and occasionally one for "The Sports Hub" debut.

Wasn't "Use Somebody" a current not too long ago on BCN?

Also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but it appears (for now anyway) that the new "Mix 104.1" is using BCN's old processing... if you switch back and forth between 104.1 and 98.5 you can notice the difference... the sound of 104.1 sounds much better i.m.o. ...

I think that 98.5's processing has been lousy for music... I.m.o. the station has been difficult to listen to, sounds very brassy to me... but it might work for the Hub's purposes? Maybe they will tweak it for the sports talk, or keep it the same? What does the panel here think?

What aired on 104.1 from midnight to 2 AM?

It was just fake static that went on and off from time to time. Does anyone here have the recording of when 98.5 went from Mix to stunting?

Around 3:40 AM, dead air occurred for just over 30 seconds. After that, the original Mix 98.5 audio chain "profile" appears to have been loaded. Again I will ASSUME, but I believe an engineer probably copied all of the settings (AGC, compression, limiting and other) from the Optimod of 98.5 over to 104.1 and around that time, loaded it, bringing the audio chain over to the 104.1 frequency.

I think it's an Omnia on both Mix & BCN. During the 4 day farewell, BCN's processing was tight, clean, perfect. Wish FNX could copy those settings, as their processing is painful to listen to.

Bradley's last show last night I think the music was off a computer - a basic laptop. Didn't sound nearly as good - and he was clearly having "iTunes" issues. I suspect the air studio computer (NexGen? Enco?) was set for Mix and no longer loaded with BCN music. I heard Bradley mention "No CD players" in the studio, but may have misheard.

Wouldn't Mix continue broadcasting from their current studios and use the current setup, jut put new sweepers where ever 98.5 is and change it to 104.1? I would assume that they are getting the WBCN studios ready for the Sports Hub.

I thought the processor was a "Million Eight-1380" I think the 104.1 processor needs a little tweaking if it wants to play such quality songs as Poker Face.

Interesting. So 104.1 now has the lousy processing that 98.5 has/had... Can't believe they did that. As signpost said, BCN sounded PERFECT.

But what I meant from my original inquiry is, will they tweak 98.5's processing for the Sports Hub? Or do you think they will keep it the same. Are the settings generally that much different from music to talk radio? Or will it really matter since it will be mostly talk (and Pats/Bruins games).
