Time to bring back KOOL 105.3 ?

I do remember when 95.7 was "Y-96!" Many people hated the fact they flipped to country from beautiful music. Matter of fact, wasn't it the last commercial FM in N.O. to flip from that format? I still have a Y-96 bumper sticker! lol And while I worked at Entercom, Steve Suter (middays, Magic 101.9), mentioned to me he was the PD of 95.7 when it was "MIX 95.7 - The Right Mix of Hits & Oldies!" I brought it up one day when I noticed a MIX 95.7 keychain on his desk.

97.1 flipped from that format to a very short-lived disco format, before going Top 40 as B-97FM. Which it's been ever since with the FM sometimes thrown in and sometimes not. Not lately tho.... I guess sayin' "B-97FM" is too old school. But nevertheless, B-97 is not the same one that I grew up with. B-97 made 25 yrs. old while I was there, but Kaplan didn't care. "Anniversaries were something celebrated on country stations or maybe rock stations, but not on CHR's...." That's what he told me with a straight face. Honestly!

And Smashed, I hate to mention it, but Brooks & Dunn's song is called "Boot Scootin' Boogie." All others are imposters! :p

well now isnt that special ;D how long did y96 last?

No, if I remember, y96 was late 80s..
according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WKBU it was 1987-1990

Technically the last New Orleans full power commercial that flipped to and from country was KKND!!! in 1994 It was known as 106.7 "the Gator" (KGTR) playing upbeat and jazzed up country songs to go with the line dance craze at the time... It also played the songs faster than normal like KKND is going now..that's why I don't expect it to do too good in the market. Music playlist gets a little boring but as smashed said somewheres, it's y100.7 from Baton Rouge redo... Only now is 100.7 doing any half way decent ratings in Baton Rouge (even though it's last in country still)

But the last competition in country was 94.7/94.9/104.7 conglomeration around 2000 that lasted for about a year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYLK

Then Kaplan doesn't realize others tout it all the time... For example in small market Alexandria, KQID 93.1 touts it every year with next year being their 30th on the air as a CHR....

Hell he should be celebrating that even though B97 is still sounding like the wedding channel, he still has a CHR that beat the last competition even after the station alienated it's fans in 1995 with hot talk.

My guess on the next flip to a CHR would be 92.3 IMO.. but Citadel New Orleans would need to learn what hip and fresh is.

WRNO I think unless gets some infusion may be flipping to something else again.. to what I don't know... This town does need a Hot A/C

Mike McCann did mornings on Y-96. I did a character voice for him. Buford Rutherford Roosevelt Carver, the sage of Pigeontown. He was an old man who sat on the porch and griped about government cheese and told jokes.

Yeah, I remember "106.7 THE GATOR." The 100,000 blowtorch of the swamp!!! lol And I have noticed 106-7 KKND pitching up the music like The Gator and Mix 104.1 did. What's the purpose of that?!?

What I was asking was if 95.7 was the last commercial FM in New Orleans to flip FROM beautiful music TO country Y-96?? As far as I can remember, 95.7 was the last one playing beautiful music as "BAYOU 96FM." I remember it took them about two weeks or so to flip to Mix 95.7 after playing some random music selections and weird sound effects....

Them flipping to hot talk was a dumb move, huh?!? You'd think he'd want to do something for B's birthday/anniversary. To me, it seems like that'd be a good opportunity for him to bank in on the heritage EZ Communications kept going for so long. But Kaplan doesn't care much about anything. He'd always ask us for our opinion of things, then bash us if it was good and he didn't come up with it. I think anyone can pride a station for its longevity, no matter what format. I think that's something to be proud of; an accomplishment not many stations and/or PD's can do!

And I'd like to guess 106.7 going CHR next as POWER 106 or HOT 106. Sounds nice! I just can't see CC going CHR on 99.5 when it didn't work on 104.1. ...Of course they managed to ruin MIX 104.1 and KISS FM... what was KISS and what were they thinking?! lol Anywho, they're probably thinking CHR won't work around here. This city can support another CHR if it's done right. Jocks that get involved, a station that get's out around town and becomes part of the community, specialty shows i.e. Throwback Thursdays, iPod Shuffle Lunch Hour, or Total Request Drive @ 5 or something to that effect. First with new music, hot jingle package, nice processing, etc. I think lures people to listen and when it's fun, they'll listen more often! They'll remember you.

Funny thing is I can remember when Mix was beating B in ratings, don't remember the exact year, but I think it was before Clear Channel took over, when it was still KHOM, and Bill Thorman was PD. Clear Channel took over and I think (correct me if I'm wrong) John Roberts was the brand manager. Personally I think when B finally got smart and started going more CHUrban around the time Rob Wagman was PD before John Roberts took over Mix was finally losing its steam, the PD position was pulled and Dave Stewart (former OM of The End and Mix was doing both, with Annete Wade as MD/APD) really wasn't paying much attention to the station. I also think Clear Channel purposely blew it up like they do many stations to test other blanket brands. Example, The Fox was molded after WOFX in Cincy, in the first week/month their playlists were identical and the jocks were doing the voice tracks. In 4 years it had 5 different formats, 01 Classic Rock, 02 Adult Top 40 as Kiss-FM, 03 Rythmic Top 40 still as Kiss, 05 Gospel as Hallelujah. I wonder if 99.5 will endure the same type of sporadic changes as Clear Channel is known for doing to its under-achieving stations.

Maybe Mr. Muniz can buy out WTIX FM. I'm sorry that y'all cannot stand Mike. I've had the honor of working for him down in Thibodaux(KXOR)back in the early 80's when his family owned the station. He let us play what we wanted. Radio was seriously awesome back then. It sucks now. Maybe Jim Letten should indict and prosecute the powers to be of corporate radio on the charge of FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMMING SCREW UP-PUNISHABLE BY LIFETIME BAN FROM RADIO..................................

Y'all must be extremely envious of Mike Costello because instead of cheering him on for being one of the last LOCALLY OWNED RADIO STATIONS IN NEW ORLEANS with A GREAT PLAYLIST, all y'all do is SLAM MIKE.
Why don't you start your own radio station. It's not that easy. It is a BUSINESS..................................................
