Time to start a new Jack/Infinity post...

There are so many good points mentioned in the posts of the past 24 hrs! I'm starting a new thread so the posts dont get lost...

1. I had the opportunity to listen to Jack today, along with my wife & 8 yr old son. We listened for about 5 hours. I knew just about all of the music (except for the newer stuff) There were a few songs my wife enjoyed. My son wanted to have the radio turned up a few times. All in all, I thought it was refreshing. But, I expected more from the 80's & 70's, less from the 90's & 00's. This will be a work in progress - I'm sure all the execs are listening at home this weekend, and first thing Monday morning they will meet.

2. Another strong reason for Infinity to get Jack on in NYC is so the Ad Agencies can hear it. I'll bet many of the ad execs fit the demo, so they will like it. (Have I mentioned before that its all about the money?) This should result in more buys in other markets. (Remember how 103.5 stunted with broadcasting its other stations for a day before signing on KTU?)

3. Country. Jeesh, so many opinions, some I agree with, some I do not. Perhaps Infinity is getting the guts to go with it on 92.3 or 102.7. But my feeling is that it will not necessarily be an instant success. It will take time to develop some numbers, which is what the agencies use. But, think about how stations in unrated markets work without numbers. Its by getting results for the advertiser! The country listener is loyal, and will patronize the businesses that advertise. If the responsiveness of listeners can be measured when someone runs a schedule, we may find its pretty attractive!

4. Radio in NYC is like a big chess game. There may be more moves in the next 6 months that will alter what KRock does in January...

5. liteFM will definately add more gold based hits, and will gain listenship.

Your thoughts?

Yes, there were a few "oh wows" this weekend from this person. Another thing I just thought of: it'll plug in the need for music in the morning, where most are talking. Lite does a good job with music, but there's an alternative, at least to hear music. And I agree, Bud, I do think Lite will add some more Oldies gradually. WLTW usually tends to format changes, and this will be no exception.

It was actually a week - but what a week for us radio geeks: Then-rock WRCX Chicago on Monday (with then-morning man Mancow); Hip-Hop KKBT Los Angeles on Tuesday; then-talk WLUP Chicago on Wednesday; AC KIOI San Francisco (then known as K-101) on Thursday; and CHR WXKS Boston on most of Friday. What a week.

Excellent analogy, if I do say so myself.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Time to start a new Jack/Infinity post ...

with the way the radio has been nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised is wkhl 96.7 applies for a construction permit for nyc.
2. k-rock will probably change the question is to what? depends on if the market is still there for the advertising.
3. country in nyc.... the advertising isn't there for it.
I don't see plj changing yet. they companys owner is probably loyal to the listerners of wplj, but then again it depends on the advertising

(Techman) It won't last

(Reposted from another thread. This is actually a very good read.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lets face it, they made a big mistake for people who are suppose to know the business. 3 months and it's gone. I said the same about MD in the morning...

The best thing they could do is make it a Big Band Standard station. With all the new CD's out there the old sounds would sound great.. It would be nice again to hear Bennett, Nat and Peggy Lee etc. in nice clean stereo CD quality.

CBS was not playing oldies anyway in the last 2 years, so I was over the fact that we lost NY's oldies station along time ago. It's like knowing someone is dieing and when it happens it's a relief to see them not suffering anymore. I know Bobby Jay and he was so bored and listening to Don K with all the dead air you can tell they were not even listening to there shows and it came across on the air. The jocks of today are just liner readers and the days of talent like Dan and Ron and the ABC crew are gone... the only guy left is Max and at least hes on the air, it's not NY and it's not FM but hes the last of the breed out there. Listen to KB at night, sure they play good oldies but without a good jock the music means nothing... I have satellite radio but it's not the answer, I like to listen to real radio.. Satellite radio is like playing your own CD's or watching a DVD instead od real over the air TV... I've been in the business for 30 years and have done it all from programming, engineering, sales and on air. Oh yes remote's too and even unpluging a toilet for Alan Colmes one night at WEVD when I worked there. Well enough from me, lets hear what you have to say.

Re: (Techman) It won't last

I know it's not New York here, believe me I know. But here in Austin, we have Bob-FM. Bob plays about 80% seventies and eighties, the rest are nineties and sixties. It is not true anywhere else, but Bob is #1 here. August will be one year since Oldies 103.5 made way for Bob.

The arrogance is not here. "Bob plays anything." That play what we want stuff is not here. I prefer solid gold rock and roll, but Bob is not bad. I have not heard anyone play Ballroom Blitz in years, but Bob plays it.

I do hope that some station, perhaps on AM in the city will bring back the gold. I visit often and will miss CBS-FM.
