So, 100.9 The Bridge hasn't been doing well since its launch... it's been about a year since it replaced Magic on 100.9, and it hasn't made much of a splash in ratings at all (unlike Cat which is doing pretty well for a little class A)... it's been pretty much flatlining at 1.0 since it flipped...
But what format does Albany need? Count out Magic returning to FM, it's doing just fine on AM 590 (around 3.0
)
- Rhythmic AC? Might work in this market, but since it's failing in other markets, otoh, maybe not...
- Urban AC? Nope, not enough Black population in the market, unfortunately... might work on a little AM, but a major FM? No way.
- Classic Rock? Probably the safest bet for a format on 100.9, it'd put a nice big dent in PYX, which is pretty much Premium Choice all the time outside of morning/afternoon. Jason Keller would be perfect on a classic rock format on 100.9 if you ask me...
- WKBE simulcast? 100.3 used to be simulcast on 100.9 during the K100 and early Point days (prior to being sold to Pamal), and WKBE's format is very similar to the new "Click" format (Modern AC/AAA) that's starting to pop up in markets like Seattle and Dayton, OH. A Click-style format could work in Albany if programmed well enough.
As for calls, why not pick up the discarded WHRL calls from 103.1 for a Classic Rock direction? Or maybe WKBY-FM (there's already a WKBY-AM in Virginia) for a WKBE simulcast
