Time Warner and KXAN

what are everyones views on this whole time Warner and KXAN mess ? I have family and freinds who liver down there and are switching to other cable providers, Direct TV or Dish Network. I know that KSAT in San Antonio has been having the same problem as well. Just curious as to what everones views and points are

I bet they will agree on something before then, I have direct TV and a off the air antenna so it doesn't bother me, but I really think the local channels should be free on any of the services. I don't believe they should charge extra for local TV stations when you can get them free off of a antenna.

Well, you'll have to talk to Congress about that, because it's the law that TV stations have the right to either charge for their signal or demand carriage, one or the other.

What kills me about this latest bout is how both are lying. Sorry TW, but KXAN/LIN has every right to charge you whatever they can get for their signal. It costs MONEY to put on TV these days, but you wouldn't know it by listening to TW. And KXAN/LIN needs to grow up about retrans. It's kind of....interesting...that whenever there's a retransmission problem in central Texas that LIN is at the center of it. First Suddenlink and now Time Warner.

Tell you what...I'll drop Time Warner AND stop watching KXAN. Will that make you BOTH happy? ::)

last year, suddenlink cable of pflugerville and georgetown was having troubles with kxan. kxan did pull thier signal off. suddenlink replace kxan with kcen ch.6 out of temple. it seems that kxan was off about 2-6 months.
i think lin corp. that owns kxan wants more money and we suffer higher cable bills. so we see what happens on
oct 2.

I thought lin was selling KXAN? Did that never go through?
I may quit watching NBC all together after this year is up.

I say, TW should drop them, if they can't make up their costs in ad revenues from the zillion commercials and infomercial programs they put on, then they need a better sales force.

I blame both TW and LIN in this issue, as they are both media companies who have a history of pulling this kind of BS. We all remember TW pulling this with ABC O&O affiliates back in the late 90's-early 00's due to the company wanting them to carry ABC Family, as well as LIN playing this similar game in the market already with smaller cable providers in the area. My guess is Tom Hicks is trying to recoup his losses from his UK-based Football Club purchase...

Well, I used to work for both LIN and Time-Warner. I'd put the blame on LIN. The people running that company are just about the lowest form of life on this planet. I wouldn't put anything past them. They have treated many good employees very poorly over the years while making massive amounts of money on KXAN and putting little back into the station.

Horns, I was there(KXAN) in the late 90's for a short time and got tired of the game real quick, I left when I saw the writing on the wall with LIN and found my fortunes elsewhere. Hicks and Sadusky are more concerned about a quick turnaround on their dollar than investing long-term. Ive heard that they've been looking to sell KXAN for awhile...wonder whats going on with that??

Well, it's basically ALL the LIN stations in Time Warner markets. This is like Henry Kissinger said about the Iran/Iraq war....what was it, something like "it's a shame that they BOTH can't lose!"

I'm actually hopeful that they will. KXAN immediately loses half of its viewership. Time Warner, well, they're just being the big, bad, cable company. It's what they're best at.

TW has plugged in Starz Kids & Family on channel 4.
A free premium movie channel in lieu of KXAN.
That should reduce the number of complaints.

Lets face it: LIN is in the hole when it comes to ad revenue for its local stations, not to mention upgrading their equipment to HD, which is the case for many TV stations around this great country at present. But, that doesnt mean you get to hold another company hostage and demand they pay you a rebroadcast fee for what is essentially a free TV signal. Im glad TWC is stepping up to the plate and holding firm, id rather see WOAI in that slot on the cable box, as that will show KXAN they can easily be replaced.
