Time Warner Cable Banning Ads With Guns In Them

This is another example of knee-jerk, blatant pandering to those whose perception of this problem is limited to mindless, feel-good sound-bites. Are they going to monitor every channel they distribute and block every offensive ad on those channels? But why stop at ads? Why not ban all programming that shows the use of automatic weapons? Oh, that's right... that would destroy their viability as a business. Looks as though their new-found social consciousness ends where their bank statements begin. Classic hypocrisy. Shame on any fool who thinks this is anything but cheap public relations B.S.

So when they dropping....USA,SPIKE,HBO,SHOWTIME,AMC,TNT,A &E,LIFETIME,BET,STARZ,ENCORE,BRAVO,DISCOVERY,FX, ota tv networks, did I miss anything?OK here's an idea.Lets just make TV's illeagle......Damn, just mine as well ban the internet too......

I think people should stop buying guns period. Why? Because these people don't need to be heroes, this is one good way of people getting in trouble with the law.

I wouldn't mind the ban if it did any good. But it's just another one of those feel good solutions that doesn't help.

I suppose they'll be using one of those big blurry electronic splotches on
reruns of The Rifleman? ???

Yet I'm sure the movie studio will continue to produce ads for their films with guns in them.

Time Warner Cable is no longer related to the Time Warner media conglomerate -- it was spun off a couple of years back, though still allowed to use the Time Warner name and corporate logo.

I don't see gun ads on local cable breaks in the first place to begin with because cable TV ad time has become massively overinflated to the point where the usual idiot car dealership and non FDA approved 'supplement' ads fill those slots too like they do on local stations. Even if I'm not really a fan of guns except for hunting and military uses, this just felt like someone at TWC deciding to make a point by putting out a press release saying 'we don't take these ads'. And usually if a local ad shows these kinds of things they're usually called out right away to begin with, or stopped before they hit air.

I think what they mean is that they will not take ads for themselves that go over regular ads from the networks. How are they going to know what ad a network/local station will put on unlessTime Warner has someone monitoring every channel to put their ad over the network/local station's ad.

How often do you ever see a TV ad for a gun dealer anyway?
I'd have to think long and hard whether I've ever seen one.

They all seem to advertise on radio. In particular the right wing extremist
talk shows I listen to.

I can honestly say I've never seen a gun ad on television and I've lived in some very conservative places. The only gun ads I've ever heard were fictitious commercials for Ammo-Nation in the Grand Theft Auto video games.
