Time Warner Cable to merge with Charter

When I called to add phone and Internet, the recorded message said it was Spectrum, although that would not be local. They had to remind us it was formerly Time Warner. When I told my phone company what I was doing (to make sure I could keep my email for a while), they gave me a good deal and faster Internet. Spectrum tried to do the same when I cancelled my appointment for last Monday, but it would be so complicated for me to switch over I'd rather not. My phone company did a good thing for me, but we'll see how things are when that deal expires in a year.

I saw a Spectrum truck earlier this week, and when I passed the local office yesterday, it said Spectrum.

Charter Rocked With Nationwide TV and Internet Outages

Charter’s rough week last week may be turning into a rough month as the cable operator yesterday fielded thousands of complaints from subscribers over the loss of Internet and TV service.

DownDetector.com, the web site that tracks Internet outages and other online errors, reports that the greatest number of people affected yesterday was around 6 p.m. However, throughout the day, Charter subscribers posted messages on social media sites saying they couldn’t access their service.

Customers in New York, Los Angeles, Mountain View, Brooklyn, Charlotte and St. Louis seemed to have the most issues, according to the posts, but complaints came from just about every market where Charter operates.

@Ask_Spectrum, the cable operator’s Twitter customer service team, issued scores of ‘apology tweets’ last night and this morning to unhappy customers. But the Twitter team never explained why the technical issues were occurring or if they had been fixed.

And some subscribers say the outages are continuing this morning.

There's a local company, Velocity.net, which in the last couple of years, has begun to lay fiber to make fiber internet available as an alternative to Spectrum. Right now, I'm paying 59.99 through Spectrum for 60mb downloads.

Pricing for Velocity.net fiber internet will be $60/mo. for 150 Mbps Download/150 Mbps Upload, $70/mo. for 500 Mbps Download500 Mbps Upload and $80/mo. for 1000 Mbps Download/1000 Mbps Upload.
Believe me, I cannot WAIT for speeds like that. They are inviting everyone to take their survey. Supposedly, if you can talk 5 neighbors into signing up for fiber, they'll lay the fiber in your neighborhood soon after.
