Time Warner to add MeTV in NY

Time Warner announced that they will be adding MeTV to channel 144 of their basic lineup in NY on June 6. It also announced that Azteca TV will be added to channel 192.
Unconfirmed speculation has it that Estrella TV and WPIX will part shortly.

Just wondering if there might be any connection to the addition of MeTV and the rumor regarding WPIX?
Cablevision is the cable company serving my area and I have not heard anything regarding MeTV, except for the fact that is is on some suburban systems to the north and east that have WSAH as a must carry.

I'm getting WSAH on Dish Network.

Did Time Warner add a national feed of Me-TV (which I didn't even know existed), or did they add WSAH which carries Me-TV?

WPIX doesn't carry Me-TV currently. Are you speculating that they could eventually carry Me-TV if they part with Estrella? I don't think that would happen because WPIX already carries Antenna TV, and wouldn't Me-TV be considered a competitor to Antenna?

WSAH is carried by Dish, Directv, and Verizon Fios throughout the entire metro area, including NJ.

Where did you hear this "announcement"?

Time Warner just made the announcement. Target add date is still more than a month away.

True, however, This TV and MeTV are connected. Therefore, WPIX is already working with their competitors to Antenna TV by carrying This TV.

This "announcement" was a Time Warner advertisement in the New York Daily News.

WPIX, This TV, and Antenna TV are all owned by Tribune. Me-Tv is owned by Weigel, so they are not connected.

This TV is a partnership of MGM and Weigel Broadcasting.  Weigel Broadcasting also owns MeTV.  Thus, they are certainly connected.

From Bloomberg Businessweek:
"The launch of ME TV follows Weigel's successful 24-hour movie channel partnership with MGM named THIS TV, currently carried by more than 140 broadcast stations nationwide."

From The Chicago Tribune:
"This TV, a digital subchannel program service channel Weigel launched in partnership with MGM in 2008."

Even KTLA, a Tribune station, describes This TV as a service of MGM and Weigel, and also states that they do not own it.

I can provide you with many other resources as well.

Estrella appears to be off of WPIX, as Antenna TV is on both 11.2 and 11.4. I'm wondering if Antenna TV is just filler or if it will move to 11.2, and whichever way that goes, whatever happens to the vacated channel. Hmmm...

By the way, on Cablevision, ch 115 still has Estrella as usual. However channel 114, Antenna TV, is blank with no sound. Go figure!

Also noticed that WRNN channel 19 on Cablevision has the Al Jazeera network in place of the usual string of infomercials.

There is a subchannel of WRNN that carries Al Jazeera - it used to be Mega TV. Verizon Fios carries it (ch 482 I think).

Speaking of Antenna TV, it will be moving to WPIX 11.2 tomorrow. It is at 11.4 at this moment while the Spanish Estrella TV is on 11.2. Cablevision customers need not worry about the channel at 114. I asked at their Facebook page if it will move and they told me it will stay at 114.

I was watching Antenna TV Wed. night and I noticed the channel bug says "WPIX 11.2 & 11.4". Verizon carries Antenna on ch 465 and I noticed this week they put the Estrella TV logo in the channel guide for that station. Very odd since Estrella is carried on a different channel. So is 11.4 going to be blank now or will WPIX be replacing it with other programming?

I'm a Time Warner subscriber in NJ. We have a similar line up to Time Warner in NYC. We get two WPIX subchannels: Antenna on Ch. 166 and Estrella on Ch. 170. We even get former WPIX subchannel LATV on 167.

But oddly, they don't carry This TV from WPIX. I'd like to see a Highway Patrol or Sea Hunt on occasion but I have to catch them over the air from Channel 11. I wonder why this subchannel is missing from Time Warner NJ?

Speaking of Highway Patrol, I remember the Canada Dry Ginger Ale commercials of the 80s where the slogan was "It's not too sweet." They used Broderick Crawford, recreating his Highway Patrol character, posed on a two-way radio mic next to a police car as an example of someone who's "not too sweet." Ethel Merman also did those commericals. Just an aside.

My guess is that channel is leased and PIX has nothing to gain by promoting it or seeking carriage from local cable systems. This TV is not on Cablevision anywhere in the tri state area.

It is a good channel -- all of the movies are from MGM and their subdivisions. Granted you may not find a blockbuster, but they do have some great movies and big name stars. PIX never makes any effort to give it any publicity -- not even on their own web page.

On another note -- I did not see any more of Al Jazeera on Cablevision ch 19. I assume that what was shown a few days ago was perhaps an error of taking a subchannel of WRNN or perhaps an error by the station.

Why would WPIX promote THIS-TV?
It's leased. WPIX has no incentive to promote it.
THIS-TV could buy airtime on WPIX and promote itself.

That's like asking why Hot 97 does not promote the Indian channel that leases its HD2.

The only incentive I can think of is it would give more exposure to WPIX in general. People might check out THIS and then also find Antenna TV. But I just don't think the programming on THIS is compelling enough that many people would care to watch.
