Timeless Cool

Gave a listen to the Timeless Cool site that is advertising on Radio-Info. It is similar to a format WHAT in Phildelphia tried, but had to modify to attract listeners (adding '70's AC & 60's Oldies).

Does anyone think T-C will work in large markets? It should be a reasonable replacement for Adult Standards, but that seems to have only limited attraction these days.

My major curiosity is whether anyone has taken on the format since it "officially" launched back in January. I've heard of no one.

I still kind of like the format, but I've been more of a smooth and/or straightforward jazz listener than a standards listener.

I've heard the demo and seen the sample hour. I can say that this standards listener is not impressed.
To each his/her own. I listen online on a sporadic basis and happen to like it. Then again, I'm younger (44) and probably relate to this better than traditional standards.

I just "clicked in" earlier today--- having noticed the banner. I listened for about an hour and wasn't overly impressed. I still prefer STANDARD standards! (as already noted by a previous post) and I'm also a smooth jazz fan as well. So... having listened as I did, I can't say that TC completely satisfied those 2 preferences. Then again... I'm slightly above their demos! :p

I would rather have a station playing ORIGINAL HITS of the '40s and '50s mixed with compatible soft hits from the '60s and '70s.

A fan of traditional standards probably would not be impressed. This format would appeal to those who enjoy mellow alternative or deeper soft rock. It's playing artists like Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer. Most of the "Smooth Jazz" songs that it spins are vocals that you would hear on Sirius XM's AAA stations the Loft or The Spectrum. It does play album cuts from these artists, but it much more of a AAA or deeper AC format than a standards format. If given a chance, it could do well as these artists are very popular with the younger adult crowd.

After reading some of your feedback, I listened for a couple of hours yesterday.

I think the soft alt rock (Mraz, Mayer, Johnson) is a new addition to the playlist, I didn't hear any of that the first time I sampled it. I heard more Nancy Wilson and Micheal Buble type music.

This is interesting. 91.1 of course is a non-commercial frequency. But the "Timeless Cool" format clock has network spots built in. How is this covered on what apparently is their flagship station?
It seems to be that when the commercial outlets are broadcasting commercials, 91.1 will broadcast public service or other announcements.
