Timeless is Dead

Last week they played "Guitar Man" by Bread, "Brandy" by Looking Glass and "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John, all during a single hour. Typical of Timeless.

I recall how stunned I was when I first heard Dial playing ONJ's "Physical". I thought ... "what"!! --are they playing this for!? It just seemed so totally out of place. ???

And speaking of screaming guitars... as referenced from Guitar Man, what about the Carpenters "Goodbye to Love". Timeless used to edit the entire mid-section of the song, cutting the electric guitar portion out. Global has always let it remain.
I don't like "Goodbye to Love" either. Sure, the part where Karen is singing is nice. They could always cut off the end, but they don't always.

I've never heard "Physical". Are you sure about that? Maybe between 2001 and 2006, but surely they don't do it now.

Oh, I am ABSOLUTELY sure! It was several months ago... yes, in 2009! It was during the 1pm (est) hour. Can't tell you what day, or month, and it wasn't the first time I'd heard them play it. It just always came out of left-field!

Don't get me wrong about Goodbye to Love, I think it's a pertty good song, although not one of their best. There really isn't a Carpenters song that I don't like. It was always the last third of the song that I thought was wasted by the lonnnnnnnnng vocal drones and the guitar portions.

"Physical" does, indeed, turn up from time to time. There are certainly some head-scratchers in the Dial Global mix. "Morning Train" by Sheena Easton comes to mind. I like both of these songs, actually; they just seem really out of place on the DG playlist.

Here's another one. Boz Scaggs' "Lowdown".... which happens to be one of my favorites 70's hits. But I was listening to them online at work... courtesy of "Memories 1280" WSAT, and I thought I'd changed the stream for a moment, when that one came on. :D

There's only one explanation, and that's the fact they already play a lot of her stuff, but that doesn't justify it. Timeless was playing her absoltley hideous "Make a Move on Me' but i'm happy to say I haven't heard that one.

The last time I heard Olivia she was singing an absolutely gorgeous duet with John Denver called "Fly Away". Well, her part was, anyway.

The morning DJ and owner of my Dial Global station (who has played "Physical", but his show is somewhat more off-the-wall) mentioned John Denver yesterday. A man played him so loud the neighbors called the cops. The DJ said it's a good thing the cops came or the guy might have played The Carpenters or even Bread.

I like Karen (always) but not the guitars.

I believe Jeff Rollins mentioned that this morning. I was only partly paying attention, but I remember the "punchline" of his story... that the guy in question was "rockin' out to John Denver".
