Times Must Be Tough At Old Smoketree

From the Front page...Tom Taylor is quoted...
In the air, from Greensboro-Raleigh.

I'm hearing that Clear Channel's going to name a separate market manager for Greensboro, after having Raleigh-based Dick Harlow spend a lot of time on I-40 trying to cover both clusters. Regional VP Morgan Bohannon (a onetime market manager in Greensboro, now based in Charlotte) will supervise Greensboro for now.

What? The two market Market Manager plan ain't working? I am sure Dick is a fine upstanding good ol boy, but Rooster laying an egg in revenue and WTQR getting kicked by Entercom doesn't bode well, better get someone in there to G'Boro quickly to stop the bleeding, Morgan to the rescue. Give me another Makers Mark straight up. More cuts in Raleigh?

Harlow is not the problem. His people like him and I hear he knows his markets. The Marlboro Man from Charlotte is slowly being found out as the weak link in the chain. Bohannan surrounds himself with cronies and butt kissers who believe they are smarter than the room. Ratings and sales prove otherwise. Entercom is beating him up in Greensboro, CBS has their butt in Charlotte and Curtis is killing them in Raleigh. 0 for 3? Bohannan wins this round and Harlow may be on the hot seat. But if Morgan doesn't get off the golf course he may find himself there permanently.

Oh Fidelipack! You hit the nail on the butt! Bohannon is a major weak leak and I can't believe they haven't found him out before now. He DOES surround himself with butt-kissing cronies, gets all his info from that inner circle, doesn't think for himself and bullies anyone who doesn't "drink the koolaide". He's truly a moron who has faked his way through. Dick Harlow, on the otherhand is a great manager, one of the best I've had since I've been working. I don't look at this move as Dick losing...he's probably thrilled to not have to be driving back and forth. Don't think Morgoon will be on the golf course much now! It will be interesting to see who heads up Greensboro . . . could Kim Pyle be moving back? She does have family here and that would bring things full circle. She was originally hired by Dick Harlow for WMAG back in 1983, then she hired Morgan Bohannon with the Clear Channel merge. That would be an interesting scenario!

;D AH! And the Plot Thickens!!!! Tom Collins...Ha! Cat..and numerous other CC people to drive the nails into the coffins...APE!!

Ask Curtis Media about Dick Harlow. They know it's a new game...and one that won't be as easy for them to win. Game on.

CC GSO was performing pretty well when Bohannon was GM... Thats why he got the promotion to Charlotte. But since that happenned, they've had HUGE cuts in programming and some VERY questionable "leaders" in the sales dept. Smoketree has beena clusterf**k for years....Now that seems to be spreading to the other markets too.

CC GSO was performing well because they had really good people...some of the best in the market. Of course, before Bohannon left he managed to run most of them off! That's why it seemed like things went to hell when he left. They were actually beginning to go downhill big-time while he was there. Believe me, he's a big part of the problem. That man has never had an original thought in his life. Totally uninspired and uninspiring. It's amazing that he was "rewarded" with the promotion to Charlotte! I think they're starting to catch on, though.

Freshen that up will ya, three fingers, rocks while I step outside for another smoke.

Triad radio is SO bad, I haven't listened to it since 2004 when I got XM. I was in a resturant eating lunch yesterday and they had WMAG on the speakers. It was the first time I had heard WMAG in years and I couldn't get out of that place fast enough! It was THE MOST BORING AND CANNED thing I think I have EVER HEARD. I don't know who's programming over there, but they OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT LISTENING to what they are airing. If they were, they would shoot themselves either from embarrassment or boredom. And they wonder why people go to satellite radio? The signs that massive consolidation in radio doesn't work just for a few more dollars.

Are they still trying to fuse WMAG's soft-AC format with WKSL's rhythmic-AC format? What would work better would be to leave WMAG alone and instead tweak WMKS--- who shares the same "Kiss" name as WKSL but is an entirely different format that doesn't even fit the "Kiss name"--- modeling it after WKSL. When word got out about WFMX's impending demise, I thought the new format would be similar to that of 94.5 The Beat before they went Spanish. Boy did they screw up there--- and on top of that, they not only killed a heritage station, they also butchered its signal (cut from 100,000 watts to 34,000 watts).

It is more like a soft Jack but more 60's and 70's based with some early 80's thrown in. Nothing hard or disco but from what I heard in a 40 minute period, forced automated personality trying to be soft and smooth with just about anything that doesn't rattle the brain. Pop elevator with lyrics.
