Times MUST be tough...

I'm actually hearing normal commercials on the PLJ Internet stream. I haven't heard a depressing 'Brought to you by.....organization' PSA add in a while...
The last one being that depressing 'Which would you choose....Streams, or Trees?' one...

I'm really surprised more people didn't complain about all the scam adds and depressing public service announcments and add council commercials being run...

Every station that streams and runs agency spots has the same issues... of not being able to run the "on air" spots on the stream. So, given that the stopset is not going away, stations have to fill with something on the stream, usually promos, PSA's and such. I know a few that create stream content, but that's difficult to expense in today's economy as desirable as it might be.

And one of those that do add content to their online stream is KINK-FM Portland, OR. They do an excellent job, though not flawless but close to it. At long stopsets they will play a track that is AAA but not played regularly on their playlist. Sometimes they will play two tracks depending on the length of the on-air stopset. On the downside, they still have 'PSA's but even worse, they run spots for other online websites that feature music streams of music from other genres, for example they run a spot for "AllNumberOneRadio" where that online station streams only songs which made "Number One" (on the Billboard charts?) from the last 40 years. Another stream advertised is a Radio-Disney-type Top 40. Overall though KINK-FM IMO has set the standard which every online stream should aspire to. I know it's costly so I don't expect many other stations will do it the same way. What I abhor is the repetitive instrumental music crap heard on some streams.

Another thing that KINK does right on their online stream is the display of what's currently playing. I love how it updates the second a new song starts playing. A lot of stations have "Now Playing" information on their websites, but most of the time it is not updated instantly or does not account for the latency of the online stream.

CBS' new beta player is great. Here's the player URL for WIP/Philadelphia:

Heh, I THINK I know what you mean, and if I'm remembering the same type of song, it was a short 2 minute music burst that was repeated 5 times in a row on occasion. Probably to cover the times when they thought too many depressing PSA's might have aired, as this instrumental was an up beat 'surfer style' song..

CBS-FM does quite a bit of that.

Morning show actualities. Z100 does it. It's probably not difficult to implement.

Once again, the score is Z100 1, everybody else 0.
