Tina Turner Dead at 83

She died at her home in Switzerland after being ill for some time. RIP, Tina. One of the greatest singers of all time.

Interesting that last night on "Don't Forget the Lyrics" the contestant said if he got the lyrics wrong for a Tina Turner song, his mother wouldn't let him come home. He got them right.

There is a group of Christian singers where I go in the mountains every year. I haven't seen them perform in many years, and the membership has changed over the years. But there were these twins who would do impressions. One would put on a Tina Turner wig and they would sing "Proud Mary". Sadly, I didn't get to see if their act changed when a few years later, Tina went out on her own. I picture the twins doing "Proud Mary" and Tina pushing Ike out of the way and singing "What's Love Got to Do With It".

Should WCBS-FM 101.1 do a tribute to the late Tina Turner songs on America's Greatest Hits Sundays at 7AM-11AM very importantly like:

What's Love Got to Do with It
We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)
Private Dancer
The Best
Typical Male
Two People
I Don't Wanna Fight

Everybody knows Tina Turner.

Sad to see her go. What a legend in pop music. May she forever RIP and condolences to her family, friends, and musical colleagues.

They're actually playing her music right now. I see What's Love Got to Do With It and You Better Be Good To Me.

AGH is a nationally syndicated show, and it may have been recorded already.

In 1961, I was a young teen and accompanied my mother to a hospital administrator's convention in San Francisco. I had my transistor radio with me all the time, and on the first night I was listening to KYA and heard "Proud Mary" a song by Ike and Tina Turner. I was a fan instantly, and always have been since.

Talent, personality, beauty and flair. Forever, Tina!

Remarkable, since the song wasn't released until a decade later! :p

That's the title I remember but you are right on the release... Now I am trying to figure out what KYA might have been playing in that era!

Now that I am older, one of the things I most appreciate about Miss Turner is that she was able to find success in her "second act" as a middled-aged artist. I wasn't that familiar with her earlier work with her ex-husband, but the summer of 1984 belonged to Tina Turner and her megahit "What's Love Got To Do With It?" A few years later, I enjoyed the biopic of the same name and thought Angela Bassett did a fine job in it.

Possibly “A Fool in Love”, their first million seller single:

This survey says KYA played ”Poor Fool” by Ike & Tina and “I’m Blue” by the Ikettes in late 1961:

Fox News Radio played that one at 5:00. I thought that was more logical than what they did an hour earlier since she was better known for solo hits.

I heard Tina in a grocery store but don't know whether there was a connection. The chain gets its music from "corporate" and they gave me the name of the company when I called an 800 number.

I'd heard of Ike and Tina Turner as a kid but really didn't know anything other than their version of Proud Mary. It was when she went solo in the 80's that I found out more about her and that she was from the West TN area.

John Fogerty wrote "Proud Mary" and the CCR version came out in 1969. Ike & Tina Turner released their version in 1971. Maybe your memory was off by ten years. I never liked their version with the spoken word intro. They had much better material. Tina was an iconic performer without a doubt. RIP...
