Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go

nd2023

Banned
I was pleasantly surprised to hear it on CHR/Hot AC 93.7 WSTW this week. Maybe Super 91.7 influenced that add

Try telling that to the club play reporters. It will be the new number one song on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart in its September 27th (2008) issue.

Personally I like the song and the video. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pop-friendly Rhythmics start playing it.

To be honest, I'm kinda surprised that CHR stations latched onto this song NOW!

The song spells "pop" all over it. If anything, I would have thought the CHR stations would have played this track BEFORE the dance outlets got to it. At the very least.....two months ago. Go figure.

I dont care for it,,,, These CHRs are probably playing the non Dance Version..... This Chicks British Voice makes me Cringe... I wont add it unless I have too,,, and it will be the Dance Version if I add it, the original is even worse.

Remember you program for your listeners...not yourself!!! There are some song I play that I do not like, but know my listeners will like.

Yeah but odds are if you somehow landed the gig of choosing which songs to play for a dance radio station than what you like is what your audience likes.

I completely disagree.

And I second the disagreement.

Playing armchair PD (yeah....like when do I NEVER....lol...and this may actually SHOCK some of you), there might be certain songs that I do like and possibly go on "gut instinct" with yet they may not work well with the audience. No specific rhyme or reason why an audience may not like it but that's what it is and I'd have to remove that track out, despite how positive I feel about it.

But if a song like this, and yeah I'm not into Ting Tings, gets people (mainly the ladies since this track spells "chick" all over it) out on the floor and tests well on that basis, I would be compelled to add it. If it was totally up to me, I'd leave the song to a Y or Z-100...but if the audience dictates that THIS TRACK must be played on the station, which caters to their needs, then that's how it is.

I tell ya what,, I agree with most, some of you,, but if I get some calls for it, or if a few more CHRs play it, I will happily add the Dance Version.... Dont hate on me guys, If you guys read the CHR boards and see what we play,, I play as many Dance Tracks or POP-Dance Remixes as I can get away with... Sure, If I programmed a Pure Dance station I would have added it long ago,, But if I add something my audience dont like, then not only will I have to deal with Hate Filled phone complaints, but Also the GM may take me into the Office, which is never a good thing. I have been quick to add stuff like September-Cry for you, which did very well and I got tons of praise for it and still do.. But I made a mistake and added the Sugababes track (Breakbeat Mix) and got a ton of negative feedback so I pulled it even though I honestly love the track and think it could work in some markets. I also added Septembers-Cant get over,, Which got failrly positive feedback, but I had to remove it and add the more recent UK version of Cry for You and its been blowing up ever since... I honestly hope September gets some more new songs we can add, even if their Ballads or straight ahead pop,,, Our market loves September and Cry for you is still in rotation and probably will be for a bit longer, probably till like late October or November, and I hope the new Cascada track does at least resonably well,, I think Faded can be a moderate hit, It wont be as big as Cry For you, but I think it will make our top 20 at least. Peace out guys, thats all for now.. BTW.. KRIS at WMPH I just send you a myspace msg,, but it was a friendly, respectful post, so no worries.

I actually heard the dance version of this song on Kiss 95.7 this week. This is similar to P!nk - U + Ur Hand (the dance remix was added to dance stations 2 months before the original version was added to CHRs)
