As of today, KOOL's new PD Kris Abrams has started to put his own
stamp on the station.
Was: "KOOL 94-point-five." Now: "94-point-five KOOL-FM."
Bad move IMO. Other than during the somewhat brief Todd Wallace
era-from-hell a few years ago, why change a positioner that's been
known to the audience seemingly forever? And you could sing it too!
New image voice, new jingles (no jock shouts heard yet). While the
new image guy sounds good, so did the former one.
Liner sweepers alternated with jingle sweepers.
And also alternating with jingles are liners out of stopsets. Huh? Why?
Too cold, even more so after a live read spot. Hasn't the idea of jingles
always been to get you back into music by picking up the pace following
a stopset? On that note, I did hear one instance of a "more music..."
jingle used out of a break--now that one should be only in a sweep.
Maybe it was just be getting the bugs out on the first day.
The hot clock seems to have been revised in terms of stopset placement,
but why are they running a break across, or just after, the TOH? I heard
this twice today.
The weekday airshifts were--to oversimplify--moved an hour earlier.
Kris, did you do this for daylight-saving time? If so, you're over a
month late! ;D
I think they tweaked the processing some--a bit heavier on the low end
and a bit brighter on the high end. Louder, too. Sounds good, though.
I heard sweeper liners mention something about "oldies and fave hits of
the seventies." A new stab at moving the playlist era--and demos--
forward? You may recall an earlier attempt at adding a big dose of '70s
music which was later withdrawn. Wasn't that the Todd Wallace era?
It did seem at times this afternoon they were alternating 60s/70s/60s/70s.
My big conclusion so far was that Abrams had KOOL sounding more "ACish"
but as I've listened longer (into the evening now), I'm not so sure.
But some things never change. When I got into the car this morning and
flipped on 94.5, the first song I heard was Brown Eyed Girl. :
