Tinkering with my old HD radio receiver...

Today I found an old Insignia FM HD Radio "Walkman" in the closet. I must've bought this thing like 5 or 6 years ago. The thing has a rechargeable battery via USB input. I notice it scrolls things like station call letters or the song title of what's playing with some. Here's what I go with it on HD subchannels:

WNPR-FM 90.5 Meriden...1- WNPR/Connecticut Public Radio
WWYZ-FM 92.5 Waterbury/Hartford...1- Country 92.5, 2-Classic Country
WZMX-FM 93.7 Hartford...1-Hot 93.7, 2- (sounded like a mix of recent hip hop/R&B)
WKSS-FM 95.7 Hartford/Meriden...1- Kiss 95.7
WTIC-FM 96.5 Hartford...1- 96.5-TIC, 2- WTIC-AM 1080 Hartford
WPLR-FM 99.1 New Haven...1- 99.1-PLR (was weak, but strong enough to show "HD1" on the display)
WRCH-FM 100.5 New Britain/Hartford...1- Lite 100.5, 2- Smooth Jazz, 3- simulcast of 98.5 Sports Hub from Boston (this used to be on WTIC-FM HD3?)
WKCI-FM 101.3 Hamden/New Haven...1- KC 101.3, 2- 100.9 The Beat (low-power simulcast to compete with WYBC-FM 94.3?)
WDRC-FM 102.9 Hartford...1- 102.9 The Whale, 2- presented like the WDRC-FM oldies format of years past, 3- WDRC-AM 1360 Hartford
WMRQ-FM 104.1 Waterbury/Hartford...1- Radio 104.1 WMRQ, 2- La Bomba 97.1 (Spanish), 3- foreign (Italian or Portuguese?), 4- Spanish?
WHCN-FM 105.9 Hartford...1- The River 105.9, 2- Classic Hits of 60s to 80s (?)

Something on top of the screen said "PD1" when I tuned up from 107.9 FM, with it jumping back down to 87.5 FM.

Can you get any HD out of WUCS Windsor Locks/Hartford (97.9)? They announce "HD1" at the top of the hour, but my Insignia portable doesn't detect an HD signal here in Meriden. Admittedly, this is a fringe area for WUCS because it has to protect WSKQ New York. Maybe you get better results farther north.

I'm hoping, now that Red Wolf also owns WXCT Southington/WACM West Springfield, that they'll put that oldies simulcast on one of the 104.1 HD channels -- maybe 3 or 4, in place of one of the foreign-language formats. Love having oldies back on terrestrial radio, but AM is a tough listen these days, and WXCT's audio is pretty bad, even for AM.

I don't get it to lock into HD even here in New Britain's south end with 97.9-ESPN.

Also, sometime on Friday night, I was listening to the HD2 channel of WHCN-FM 105.9. It went completely dead, on The River 105.9 (HD1) channel as well. The HD was still off as of this writing.

According their Facebook Page WXCT has taken over 106.5 HD 3 in New London County and WSKP 1180 in Hope Valley Rhode Island.

One of the sub channels of 104.1 is Portuguese. It's a simulcast of WFAR 93.3 FM Danbury. Red Wolf bought WFAR's 104.9 (now 104.5) Translator in Bridgeport for BOMBA. Part of that deal included allowing WFAR to use one of 104.1's HD Subs.

100.9 The Beat is Hip-Hop. Some of the jocks from POWER 105.1 in NYC including Angie Martinez Voice Track it.

Here are the 4 sub channels of WMRQ.

104.1 HD1 - Modern Rock Radio 104.1
104.1 HD2 - Spanish Tropical BOMBA-FM
104.1 HD3 - Portuguese // WFAR 93.3
104.1 HD4 - Spanish Tropical BOMBA-FM

Don't ask me why BOMBA-FM is on both HD2 and HD4. It's a waste. The HD4 should be used for a feed of KOOL Oldies.

I heard the Legal ID on BOMBA-FM. That's how I found out they're on 104.1 HD4. After they announce WMRQ and WBMW I don't know the exact order they go in.

WMRQ HD2 and HD4 Waterbury/Hartford.
WBMW HD4 Pawcatuck
W246CC Bolton/Hartford
W258AL Clinton (their tower is somewhere in the Lakewood Road/North Main Street area of Waterbury)
W283BS Bridgeport
W283BW New London
