Tip of the Hat to Steve Versnick

Though many of you may not know him, Steve Versnick, for the last two years the PD at WREC, has been a breath of fresh air in the stale, internecine, inbred sty that is Memphis radio. That breath of fresh air has blown town as of today, headed to Minneapolis where he will start Monday as PD of FM Talker KTLK.

I had the good fortune to work with Steve when he came to Memphis until I retired last March and he was a pleasure to work with. I didn't think there were any young folk around who lived and breathed radio, but Steve proved me wrong. I found him always approachable, always upbeat and positive, and really knowledgeable about anything to do with talk, sports and radio software. He always handled personnel with respect and understanding.

Tim Spencer has his hands full in replacing Steve. I wish him well and hope Steve achieves the success and acclaim he works toward every day. Steve Versnick...one of the good ones!
 
Got to know him a little before leaving Memphis for Birmingham, and almost (I think) got to work with him. He's a solid radio guy, and really understands the business.

We wish you all the best, Steve, and congrats on the advancement. Stay in touch.
 
.......ditto to Tynosaurs comments. Our loss is Minneapolis' gain. Steve Versnick was indeed one of the good guys.

And what if Tim Spencer IS Steve Versnick's replacement? I am sure CC wouldn't mind giving him another hat to wear.

One further note, KTLK-FM is a CC operation, so Steve remains a part of the Collective. Once assimilated into the Borg...
