Tired of excuses

So, I feel the need ot get this off my chest, not really sure why.

There seem to be a lot of excuses in this town for why things don't work, namely KFNC and KIOL.

Signal strength is not an excuse. I think Pat and the guys in the Galleria know that. They can make it and make it big on those signals if they tap into what Houston wants.

The Ticket in Dallas is on a 9kw/5kw tower. They are now on 2 stations, have been on as many as 3. They are a monster up there and never once made an excuse about their signal. KFNC is a 100kw station that can be heard all the way through Ft Bend County. The people in Sugar Land don't care how strong a signal is. They just care if they can hear it. And they can.

Pat and the gang are tweeking that station into something that is unlike anything else on either dial. And once they figure it out, the #s will come. Wait and watch.

q: Do you work for or know Pat/KFNC?
a: I wish!

The KTCK 1310 signal is pretty good across the Metroplex...it has been upgraded three times since the old WRR incarnation. The 104.1 simulcast helps immensely in the northern part of the market.

I don't know if The Ticket would work in Houston, but the chance to compare would be interesting. Probably 70% of the subject matter on The Ticket has nothing to do with sports, but centers on what has been called "Guy Talk"--what you might talk about with friends over a few cold ones after work. And there is virutally no input from phone calls either--lots of interviews and chatter, but listener interaction is almost nonexistent.

Of course their main rival, ESPN 103.3 loves to bash The Ticket in on air promos, deriding their "potty talk" and "embarassing the dignity of their guests."

I've wondered if ESPN 790 here would ever go the "Guy Talk" route in order to boost ratings. I doubt the current local talent (Pallilo, Dalati, Dukes) would want to have anything to do with such a concept.

Then they will fade into obscurity.

If they have a contest for the new morning show, sign me up.
