So first CC Orlando leaves Orlando without an Oldies station, in favor of Rumba and the Spanish format...Now, we're left without sports...i hear tommorrow morning (Dec 4th) that 740 the Team flips to MEXICAN! (not sure if its music or talk)...

So what happens with the airstaff at 740? What happens to the airstaff at 540 is more like it. Here is what i hear...Sileo haters can have a FIELD day with this!!!...

Pat Campbell...OUT...SILEO moves to mornings at 540...
Bud Hedinger stays on at afternoon drive...
Jerry and Shot to nights...

so...basicly...a super orlando news/sports station...i wonder why they would do that...OH yeah...because the better/consistant ratings winner DBO (news) has the ONLY PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAM IN TOWN ON THEIR STATION!...can clear channel do anything right! do they think they can con the Magic away from DBO...hrmmm...

As for the other contracts 740 holds...Bucs...UCF...Predators...i think you'll be seeing one of, if not all of those popping up on various other CC cluster FM's...Bucs to JRR on sundays to compete against OCL and the Dolphins? TKS taking the Preds and possibly the Bucs?

Pat Campbell is gone from 540 as of this morning. "La Preciosa Network" is owned by Clear Channel and that will likely replace the sports programming on 740. Looks to me like CC will try something new for Orlando anyway on 540. Sports and Conservative Talk. Sileo in the AM drive, keeping Beck, Rush and Bud then putting more sports on at 6PM.

cfl...is this music or talk? of all the details i have...its the one detail i cant find out!...

Bob's got it right. The new format starts on 740 near the end of the month. La Preciosa is delivered via satellite from Premiere. Say hello to 24 automation on 740 AM. So here are my questions:

Isn't there already enough Spanish formats on the dial in central Florida? Except as a sales combo buy with Rumba, I don't see how 740 plans to make any impact.

What happens to all the sports programming? I'm talking UCF, NFL, MLB and so forth. They can't fit everything on 540 with Gators. Sure, 1080 can absorb some but they don't cover the area at night. Someone else WILL have to step up. AM 660?

...If they wanted to save money, I would have gone with canning everyone and going 24 hour Fox Sports Radio. Still could carry all the games and still could be automated.

I'm assuming 540 programming director Tom Benson was relieved of his duties or something, seeing as how Tom absolutely hates sports and has been trying for four years to get rid of the Gators coverage.

I believe La Preciosa is delivered to O&O stations by satellite directly from KPRC in Salinas, CA. Same company, so not a really important issue.

Spanish is a language, not a format. There are likely more different formats possible in Spanish than in English.

Both FMs appeal to Puerto Ricans. 740 will appeal to Mexicans, who would dislike the two FMs. None of the AMs up till now has a really competitive metro signal. La Preciosa is Mexican adult hits, a format not in the market.

Clear apparently believes there are enough Mexicans there to support such a station. My data shows the Hispanic population to be 92% Puerto Rican, so I think they are making a stupid mistake, like the one they made in Philadelphia.

"Spanish" is not a format. It is a language.

"Mexican" is not a format, it is a nationality.

Mexican adult hits, the Spanish language equivalent of Jack for persons of Mexican heritage. Funny, but the Hispanic population in the Orlando metro is 92% Puerto Rican.

Once again this proves that Sileo has something on many people On Clear Channel
How else can this idiot still be on the Radio.
This is leading to the death of all sports in Orlando

What the hell are they smoking in Maitland? I can't believe their wasting that signal with this. They have always beaten WHOO in the ratings, and now their handing 1080 their 1.0 share. Now 740 will be lucky if this new format even shows up in the books.

Doing a format aimed at Mexican listeners in Orlando doesn't seem like the obvious logical move, but hey I'm sure CC did a ton of market research that shows them there is a hole and they're movin into it :)

Any word on what happens to the Jim Rome show? Or was that in a post that I missed.

The "La Presciosa" service targets Spanish-dominant Latinos aged 18 to 54 featuring Spanish hits from the 1970s through the 1990s. Not quite sure I understand the need for another Spanish station in Orlando.

You have been reading too many puff pieces. La Preciosa targets Mexican heritage persons 25+ with Mexican hits from the 50's up to today.

While this may have been the wrong format, Orlando has two Spanish language FMs that essentially cover the same audience. There are a dozen or more other formts with appeal, starting with AC, that could be done

By the way, "Spanish Stations" are in Spain. Spanish language stations are in the US.

Come Q1 2008, we'll have...
AM 740, 1030, 1160, 1220, 1270, 1400(?), 1410, 1480, 1490, 1580, 1680 ... all spanish formatted.
FM 89.1, 98.1, 100.3 ... also spanish formatted.

That's 14 stations! Everyone of them audible within the metro area on a decent radio!

Heaven forbid i left any off my list, but they certainly have enough, already.

And yeah, what happens to Jim Rome? :)

1400 has a format combination of Black Gospel (mainly in the morning) and Spanish music (mostly in the afternoon and evening)

I see Central Florida Radio has more on some firings.

I am surprised 540 didn't move Bud to AM drive. Reason being...exploiting his ability to interview the plethora of political individuals that will be flooding the airwaves in '08 and the amount of $$$ that can surround that. Regardless if you like Bud or not...he knows the community and with his news background might have been an interesting choice against Turner.

Bud would have been an interesting choice. Don Imus would have been a better choice than the clown in there now! Yes, I know he (Imus) didn't do squat on the Genesis toilets...but now, with the swarm of publicity around him and being on a better stick than 1190 it would have been different for him this time in Orlando.

Is there another CC AM somewhere in a market where this new sports/news/talk hybrid is already working? (I mean with syndicated out-of-markets included, not like 700 WLW which otherwise comes to mind.)

Byron

It appears that Jerry O'Neal and the shot Doctor lives for another day.
They appear to be headed to the 6pm -9pm slot.
The old 740 WKIS used to be Talk/Sports much like what 540 is doing now.
But hte old 740 had Clive Thomas, Jin Phillips and The Coach Mark Daniels
on its line up. That was a great combo.
I do agree that Bud henniger does a good show even though I do not agree with him alot.
