Anyone find it interesting that so many format changes are happening this time of year instead of the usual January onslaught? What do you think is the reason?
Actually, going back to the WGBT flip to Spanish, this year's onslaught (at least, in the Raleigh/Greensboro region) began in February, then came a few "quiet" months before this ongoing frenzy started following WFMX's death in July.
I don't find summer changes so unusual, but it surely seems odd to be making all the changes in the important 4th quarter. I would have thought they would milk their current business through the holiday season and make the change in January when there would be little revenue to lose!
The one change (or should I say, pair of changes?) I find a little on the strange side: Two stations--- albeit in two neighboring markets--- flipping to the same format (country) in the same week (WMQX flipping from Oldies 93 to The Wolf and WRDU flipping from classic rocker 106.1 RDU to 106.1 The Rooster). A coincidence? When Clear Channel is involved, who knows?
