Titan's broadcast

While listening to the Titans-Chief broadcast Sunday I thought I heard Mike Keith come up with a broadcast first. When the Chief's fumbled a punt and the Titan's recovered I swear I heard Mike say that the Titan player, "Gobbled up the muff." I just about drove off I-65. :)

Since first downs, sacks, touchdowns, etc. in a Titans broadcast are sponsored, I am surprised "gobbled up the muff" was not endorsed by Hustler Hollywood.

it might be that the guy who said it might not know what the term refers too. sports speak sometime muff means like "he muffed the punt". got his words backwards in the heat of making the call. It still funny as hell, still laughing now. sports geeks like that reside in their own little world for the most part.

that is funny...i understand courier's comments but tell me what sports broadcast radio or tv anymore doesnt have total commercial content. for my money, the titans broadcast is as fresh and full of production value as anything ive heard on radio sports

I have only listen to bits and pieces of the games on KDF, but what little I have listen to, the audio quality is super, the announcers are great, and the whole game is enjoyable to listen to. Very alive and exciting on a 100 KW FM with decent audio quality.

We all must keep in mind, nothing (electronics) is 100% perfect and reliable in this world, and things happen where the audio starts to have problems, but that's just life. Remember this when your mp3 player or laptop craps out on you!

Titans broadcast is great. I think it is funny when a Titan makes a 2 yard gain and Mike Keith gets excited. LOL

Speaking of Keith, many Tennessee Vols fans wished he had gotten the play by play position after John ward retired.

I think Bob Kessling has gotten better since he first took it over. It does seem at times that Kessling forgets the position on the field at times. Just Minor criticisms, but some Vol fans can be brutal.

Scott, God I hate to think about my ipod quiting on me. That might mean that until I got a new one, I might have to listen to The pebble @ 105.9 ;)
Anyway, Titans broadcast rocks!!!!

My complaint about Tennessee Vols football broadcasts is Tim Priest. As color analyst he makes every play seem like the run was one tackle away from a touchdown. Incomplete passes are always on the fingertips, etc. Sort of reminds me of Bill Walton and his hyperbole machine.

Not to stray away too far from the point of this thread, but you mentioned Bill Walton. God, that guy was irritating to listen to as a commentator. Did anyone hear what he said after The University of Arkansas finally got rid of that crybaby paranoid nut, Nolan Richardson. Walton said that a black man never caught a break in the state of Arkansas. The University of Arkansas bent over backwards to work with Richardson and if there had been any racism whatsoever directed at Richardson, The University of Arkansas would have never hired Richardson to begin with. Walton was a great player in his day, but keep this guy off the broadcasts. ::)

Tim Preist played for the back in the early seventies. Usually when criticisms are directed at the Vols current broadcast team, Kessling takes much the heat. Did you also know that ESPN broadcaster, Ron Franklin, who did the primetime ESPN college game applied for the UT job after Ward retired. Ron Franklin in my book is the finest college football broadcaster out there with the exception of BBS's Vern Lundquist.

i'm not a sports nut by anymeans, as i posted earlier, but having rode the board durimg many a UT football game in the 70's..i do miss john ward..."this is the vol network"..i still remember the first UT night game.."six at night in knoxville"..

John Ward was great. Two classic calls come to mind first off. When Tennessee went to South Bend back in 1991 to play a top 5 Notre Dame team. Tennessee fell behind 31-7 only to put on a huge rally in the second half to take the lead 35-34 with about 12 seconds to go. With 12 seconds to go, Notre Dame attempted the game winning field goal only to see it get partially blocked. The ball looked as if it still went through the goal post, but it had actually veered left as I recall. Ward botched the call when he said: The Kick is good No, NOOOOO GOOOD!!! I think many Vols fans listening on radio must have freaked out on that call LOL

Another classic call was when Tennessee beat Florida in overtime in 1998. The Gators were trying a kick a field goal to send the game into another round of overtime, but the kick was wide right as I recall. Ward said: NO- SIR- REE NOOOO- SIIIR- REEE.

I never listen to the closing credits on the contributions made by so many people on those Vols football broadcasts, but when UT beat Vandy a few weeks ago, I just happened to hear Chris Romer's name on the credits.

Anyway, interesting comments.

I think your the first person to make it thru the end of those credits...and live to tell about it.
BTW...we put up all UT, VU, and PREDS broadcasts to satellite for their networks via the CC uplink.
