So WEPN FM is continuing to be leased, after all. I wonder whether USRN will want to continue the lease past past February of next year, if the station is not sold by then.

I was one of the people who fought to "save" WOWO back when this happened...

THIRTY YEARS AGO.

What none of us could have known then was that it wasn't going to matter. Within just a few years, there wasn't going to be anything live or local on WOWO after dark anyway, and that wasn't going to change whether it was 50 kW or 9800 watts, a difference you can't hear in the local Fort Wayne market anyway.

All that's left after 6 on WOWO is just the same syndicated blather that's on every other AM talk station everywhere else. No local news, no local anything.

And if you actually live in Fort Wayne and you still listen to WOWO, you're probably tuned to its full-power FM signal anyway.

In several articles around the time of the announcement (late August) it was mentioned that the lease agreement was for three years.
So far, only Bob Raissman (sports media columnist for the NY Daily News) has reported that the lease fee is
"somewhere between $2 million and $4 million per year."

Try tuning it in on 787 or in downtown Troy / Albany. No dice. Plus they have Renna running it, and his reputation in Albany radio & venue scene is less than stellar.

As for TJ, the show is not creative and there’s nothing interesting about it. It’s definitely uncool. He looks like a wannabe hipster ****** in all his photos.

No they don't. I cringe when I hear him (one or two songs are exceptions) and consciously avoid his music. In the Palm Springs market, where there is not just a main road named Frank Sinatra Drive, there are restaurants and bars that play his songs incessantly. I ignore the street name, and avoid the restaurants.

Even using the $4 million a year number, that's a significant decrease from the $12 million Emmis was charging Good Karma. Yes, it's AM rather than FM, but 880 is about as good a signal in NY as there is, and Sports still works on AM. Saving $8 million is probably going to give Good Karma a good chance at nice profit at the end of the year.
 
Considering where the 660/880 stick is, there's very little chance anyone has dug up and stolen the ground system for its copper scrap value. Or that development in the immediate periphery has diminished their signals like it has with 77 WABC, where the Lodi land is now surrounded by housing and warehouses. So if GKB was going to LMA any AM signal, they couldn't have chosen a better one.
