ENTERCOM AC WSPA (MAGIC 98.9)/GREENVILLE, SC welcomes TK to wakeups. "TK AND MONNIE IN THE MORNING," with co-host MONNIE WHITSON, debuted today (9/18). Until JANUARY, TK spent 13 years in mornings at SOUTH CENTRAL AC WJXB (B97.5)/KNOXVILLE, TN.


It's good to hear that a Knoxville icon was able to land on his feet. I never got to listen to him, but I heard that he was very popular. I wish him well. Greenville/Spartanburg is a good radio market.

He might be in a bigger market, but he is definitely not making more money. The former B PD is at Love 89 in Knoxville. The PD before him took a big paycut to work for Salem. Roach is working in a smaller market. Jim Ridings is in a very small market in the Carolinas somewhere. The previous WIMZ SM is in Joliet, IL. I think Bozyk might be making more money in a bigger market. But that was four years ago.

That having been said, congrats to TK. It's no fun being on the beach.

Point taken. But I do understand he took a pretty heavy pay cut. Ft Myers is an older demo market with way too many signals.

Yeah, I'll give you that. I've spoken to a PD there for a competing station on a couple different occasions about the possibility of working there. The first time around, when he asked me what I was looking for salary wise and I told him...He never called back. The sad part is that I wasn't exactly playing hardball. I twas a pretty reasonable figure. The second time an opening came about, a year or two later, I got emails asking me if I was still interested. But at that point Fort Myers had been devastated by a couple of hurricanes and there was no way I was going. But, I got the impression that despite the market size, it was actually a radio nowheresville. I've now spoken to some other folks that lived there. And they all advise against it. Anyway, I'd say you're right about the pay cut. And I'm pretty sure that he's not wearing any stripes there either.

Re: TK HAS LANDED + B97.5 PD

The current PD is doing fine. When you dump the morning show that was on the station for 13(?) years and only go down for a few trends--then come back up as
they did in the last trend---it doesn't suck much. SCC doesn't make many bad moves in that market. And there is a consultant on board who may have something to say about all of the long term plans. I doubt that B97.5 is in any grave danger other than the usual arbitron wobble in that market. Star also looks pretty good but Point is D.O.A.! Journal should throw in the towel.
