TLC's Sarah Palin's Alaska

Very well-produced. More of a travelogue than anything else, with some brief glimpses of her family. Probably an attempt to "humanize" her more than anything else, with some fantastic Alaskan back-drops. Succeeds on some levels. Thoughts?

She should line up right behind Flo the Progressive Lady and just go away, already.

The thing I don't understand about Sarah Palin and the left is if she is such an incompetent idiot, why do they fear her? They do way more to promote her than anything she does. I forgot the show was going to be on until I got five spam emails Sunday urging me to sign a petition of complaint to the Discovery Networks. I started to send them back thanking them for the reminder about the show and that I really enjoyed it.

It's a generalization put forth by the right to try to make her out to be a bigger force than she is. Many on the left are to busy laughing at her to actually fear her.

If that is true then I can't figure out why she always draws such a firestorm of criticism
as a private citizen, tweeting things out on her Facebook page. Why don't they just ignore her?

That's the nature of generalization. Some offer opinions, but others go about their daily lives, and they all could be characterized as "the left." Those who speak up don't automatically speak for everyone, any more than the bible thumpers, for instance, speak for all people of faith.

Some perhaps. But not all. Those on the right who are smart are staying out of it.

Let's just say that it will be a banner day for Barry Obama if Palin were chosen as the Republican nominee for president in '12. She couldn't possibly win, her negatives are too high and she just doesn't have what it takes. Those who don't realize this are the same bunch as who think that Huckabee is a great candidate and who were surprised when Christine O'Donnell was shellacked in Delaware.

She is, on the other hand, very engaging and entertaining (and easy on the eyes). It is in these areas where she should continue to concentrate her energies.

Agreed (save for "easy on the eyes, though to each their own), there is more upside to simply expanding on what she's been doing than jumping into the presidential fray....as of today, at least. So many odd things have happened in politics that, well, who knows. It's hard to rule anything completely out if some unforeseen circumstance should happen.

The show, people.. let's talk about the show.

Great photography. The idea of the show seems to be to show the state of Alaska in a way that most of us would never get to see it. In that regard, the show is a success.

As for Palin, this show puts her out there in a very WYSIWYG way. That's extremely risky for mos people from a political standpoint. In this case, I don't think it matters much. I suspect that people who like her will like her even more and people who hate her will have new ammo against her. As a host for a show like this, Palin comes across as a pretty authentic Alaskan with an unusual family life.
