LARGE DIAPHRAGM CONDENSER MICNeumann is being tight-lipped about the TLM 49, and we admit, we haven’t heard it yet. BUT, we have heard from people whose opinions we trust that, well, we’re almost too shy to say it, but, er, um... we hear that it’s the second coming of the U47. We know, we know, WE KNOW – you’ve all heard it before. But these are some pretty reliable sources. Seems that Neumann’s come up with a tube emulation circuit that actually voices this TLM 49 to sound like a tube mic. But professional ears are telling us it’s not just ANY tube mic – it sounds like the U47 Tube mic from all those years ago. You know the sound – that creamy, warm, smooth ultra-present sound that made John and Paul sound like, well, John and Paul. We have some preliminary specs, but they aren’t what’s important. What’s important is the sound, and no mic has had a sound like this since the U47. The TLM 49 is a large-diaphragm studio microphone with a cardioid directional characteristic and a warm sound which is especially optimized for vocal performance. It is supplied as a set, with an elastic suspension. The design is inspired by that of the legendary M 49 and M 50 microphones of the 1950s. Naturally the TLM 49 Tube has the typical Neumann fine matte nickel finish. The “sound design” is also oriented toward that of the M 49 and the U 47, and is thus likely to prove popular. By combining its retro look with proven Neumann transformerless circuit technology, this microphone ensures low self-noise, permitting the use of high gain levels. anyone tried this mic????at 1500.00 it might be a bargain..

Re: tlm 49 vs u47

sorry, might have been a little pre-mature ( something my wife warns me about ha)since the TLM 49 was just released.but if it does what the BSW site says it will be one heck of a value...hope some one gets a chance to demo it and post their opinion.
