TLM49/MXL V12 audio sample

Didn't sound too good myself this evening, but here is a link to a WAV file sample of two mics. One is the weird MXL V12 and the other is a new Neumann TLM49. Which one is which? I'll tell you later. Is one better than the other from a production standpoint? Does either sound bad? Does either sound cleaner, or grittier? Let me know..Again, pardon the allergy induced voice tonight. Both mics processed with M610 preamp into Air Corp 500TV into Pro Tools.

Naturally with your voice they both sounded good.my guess is the tlm 49 is the first one sounds warmer to me, the 2nd seems to have some high freq splatter.and slight distortion.could be my ears though, as rocknroll pretty well took care of them years ago ha.on the podcast the 49 really stood out and sounded awesome.anyone had any experience with that aphex 230? looking at that and the aircorp 500 tv.
 
The first one sounds warmer to my ears as well. The 2nd seems to have a bit more clarity to it to me. The differences are very minor.
 
It's hard to tell a lot with the processing...I'd like to hear 'em both dry. Even with the processing, I can hear the housing of the second one. It's got a mild "ring" to it that sounds brassy.

First one also has better low-end response and a silkier top.

In mixing, the first one sits more comfortably in the mix, but the second one cuts a little better.

(It's funny, as I'm typing this, I'm hearing you talk about Malcolm In The Middle on KPLR, Jeff)

First one is slightly quieter (in terms of noise, not signal).

I'd pick the first one for you, Jeff. I definately prefer it, at least from this comparison.

I prefer the first one. I like a little more low & silky sound, and more crunched. Jeff knows that :0) (The U47 and secret chain used a few years ago really rocked!)

I say...The TLM49 is the second one.
 
I think the 1st one is the Neuman..the 2nd one is just a tad harsh..of course Jeff could make ANY mic sound good
 
so the 2nd sample must have been the v12,since it had that noticeable ring to it.also checked out the podcast on the aphex 230 mic pre, sounded very good.i may try it over the aircorp..any thoughts??
