I'm putting together a show first on a non-profit level hoping to take it to another level. Does anyone know what legalies I have to go through to make sure I'm the only one using the show name I chose?
I'm not a lawyer, but you would register the name of the show as a trademark and copyright the performances.
You can also trademark and copyright any original graphic logos that you may use to identify the show.
Go to www.uspto.gov for trademark info.
Go to www.copyright.gov for copyright info.
You can search on each site; HOWEVER, doing searches on these sites should not be considered a comprehensive search. You may want to hire an attorney who specializes in trademark and copyright.
For a US trademark registration, it's my understanding that you already must certify that you have used the trademark in Interstate Commerce. You can also register trademarks with individual States. But you probably want Federal protection.
Good luck!
