TMO Changes: Good/Bad

Rarely in life is something 100% positive or totally negative...with that in mind, I'm just going to list some pros and cons to the switch (and feel free to add your own...

Positive:

Party 105 is not hardcore dance CHR lik it was, but it's still a bigger variety of music than what most CHRs play, and it hasn't been that bad.

Neobreeze 107 is the type of format that certainly has a place with certain folks (and think about many of the rich people that come out here to relax that would enjoy the chill-type music).

Negative: Neobreeze had to kill LIR. If TMO wanted to debut this format, they should have put it on 98.5. Classic Rock is covered by WRCN and WBAB has a repeater on 95.3 to take care of rock music. There is no alternative (no pun intended) to WLIR and it's alternative music format. Why did the Bone stay, while LIR was shown the door.

No Jocks, especially on Party 105. Jockless radio works fine for the Neobreeze format...and is acceptable (but not desrieable) for a rock station. CHR, perhaps the most personality driven format on radio, needs to have live people there...it's just weird to hear all those hits going through dead segs...as a friend of mine remarked, even if the music variety is good, without personalities, the station has no soul. I know TMO won't bring live local people back, but I can dream can't I...

Why, cause LIR didn't get high numbers. Same with the box even though i liked the more cutting edge alternative rock. The bone was doing better towards the end with the addition of New Rock. BAB; don't make me laugh, that lame excuse for a rock station is lucky if it even plays something post 1985 for at least once a day. The bone is sooo much better in terms of rock stations and no, 103.9 and definitely not 102.3 or 95.3 cover rock at all! The only station i can think of in the region that covers rock is 106.9 WCCC out of Hartford, but that is hard to get.

I'm pretty sure LIR actually got better numbers than Party or the Bone in recent East End books. The latter two got better numbers in the Long Island book though because their signals carried further west (and despite that, I still remember WLIR popping into the bottom of the LI book once or twice)

Without getting into specific numbers, they actually each had the highest among the three of them once in the last 3 books. The Bone was the highest of the three in the spring, LIR was the highest of the three in the winter book & Party was the highest of the three in the fall book

HOLD ON, NEOBREEZE is NOT CHILL. See Above Post!

Actually, A TRUE Chill format or Smooth Jazz would probably do quite well on the East End

Man, you are right here, but LIR was on its way down anyway. They should have just left it as "The Box" but the problem is they might have had some success with it, and that would never do.

Once again, the problem with your logic is that it makes logical sense.

Actually, there is. To some degree anyway. By moving the antenna location from The tower near Quoge to the tower near Manorville, they diminished their signal over the Forks. So they serve Riverhead and Eastern Brookhaven. Their Alternative, now appears in the form of Radio-X which is a new LPFM on 94.7 broadcasting from Ridge. Radio-X plays alternative Rock from the 90's up through today, and it is Non-Commercial. They have been on the air since August. INow I wonder where TMO got the Idea of Channel-Casting from?

Did they move to the new antenna yet? I live on the Coram/Selden/Terryville border, and the station doesn't come in any clearer. Still get the same interference from The Peak in Westchester (which is a great station, btw). Hey, there's an idea now...just simulcast The Peak so we don't have these interference issues anymore. They will be able to sell ads all across LI on 107.1, as the same signal should come in the entire length.

The problem with RadioX is, as you say, they are a Low Power FM (LPFM). Their total output is about 20 watts, or the equivalent of a dim lightbulb. Can't hear them clearly more than 5 miles in any direction.
