TNN THE NASHVILLE NETWORK have viewers scratching thier heads on launch

November 1 is the announced launch date. Affiliation agreements are confidential and have not yet been announced.

If the parent company (Luken Communications, LLC) really wants to jump-start this network they'd run it on one of their channels most people get now like Jewelry Television. I just checked and Verizon FiOS 155 is JTV owned by the aforementioned Luken.

8-11pm Eastern with a repeat for the west coast for a couple months will show their viewers what to ask their local cable, satellite & sub-channel providers for. Gin up the base and the requests will flow. ;D

8 to 11pm is when most Shopping Channels get their Viewers.
KSMOTV but it hasen't launched it on the Cable systems yet Bounce TV.

So does KC on KCTV5.

CBS seems to discourage subchannels

It's true that CBS O&Os had shunned them in the past (though that's no longer the case; WCBS-TV and KYW-TV both have "CBS Plus" channels now on 2.2 and 3.2, with more coming at other O&Os); I know of no mandate from the network discouraging affiliates from using subchannels. Here in upstate New York, for instance, there are .2s in Rochester (Bounce on WROC 8.2), Binghamton (CW on WBNG 12.2), Watertown (Fox on WWNY 7.2) and Albany (This TV on WRGB 6.2), and CBS itself is on a .2 in Elmira (WENY 36.2, with CW on 36.3). Only Buffalo (WIVB) and Syracuse (WTVH) have no subs, and WIVB has had one in the past.

Luken does not own Jewelry TV.

Actually, Henry Luken does have a stake in Jewelry Television. Luken's corporate website states JTV as one of its networks (http://www.luken.tv/) and an 2006 article in The Chattanoogan newspaper references that Luken owns equity in JTV's parent company (http://www.chattanoogan.com/2006/1/5/78144/Corker-Selling-Many-Business-Holdings.aspx)

Mr. Luken has equity investments in such companies as Covista Communications, Inc., a telecommunication services provider headquartered in Chattanooga; America’s Collectibles Network, Inc., doing business as Jewelry Television, headquartered in Knoxville; Equity Broadcasting Corporation, headquartered in Little Rock, Ark.; and Christensen Shipyards, Ltd., headquartered in Vancouver, Wash.

With the exception of Equity Broadcasting, as that company was bankrupted out of existence, its likely that Henry Luken still has equity stakes in those companies six years later.

If CBS would have forced their affiliates to shun subchannels, many would have likely tried to change network affiliates if possible, or go independent. I know WSBT-TV originally had UPN on 22.2, but since Weigel Broadcasting took the My Network TV affiliation & CW, WSBT-TV has 22.2 as an independent. Weigel has CBS afiliate WDJT Milwaukee with This TV on 58.3, WBME-CD (MeTV) simulcasted on 58.2 (originally, it was WMLW-CD being simulcasted on 58.2, before they swapped channels, making WMLW on full power 49.1 & in HD, & moving MeTV on low power 41.1 & simulcasted on 58.2), & Shorewest TV (real estate) on 58.4 (this channel is shut off during high demand HD programming). Even WWMT Grand Rapids has CW on 3.2. Terre Haute's WTHI added Fox on 10.2 after Nexstar decided to drop Fox & reaffiliate with ABC on now WAWV (then WFXW as Fox). Nexstar doesn't seem to believe in subchanels though, & at the same time, uses shell company Mission Broadcasting to also own WTWO (NBC) in a 3 commercial channel market.

As an employee of Luken Communications, I know exactly what he owns. I also know that a 9.9% share along with the right to distribute Jewelry over satellite does not mean Luken "owns" Jewelry TV, and would not be able to do what an earlier poster had suggested by replacing Jewelry TV with TNN.

They're running Bounce on WROC 8.2 here in Rochester, and they'll inherit a bunch of subs when their purchase of Newport's stations elsewhere in the region is complete.

I suspect that it's not so much that Nexstar "doesn't believe in subchannels," but rather that they just haven't found the right partner group-wide just yet.

There's some truth to that, Scott...Nexstar/Mission's duopoly in Rockford, WTVO and WQRF, each have subchannels; WTVO had ABC on 17.1, MyTV on 17.2, while WQRF has Fox on 39.1, and Bounce TV on 39.2 (and they were one of the first markets to get Bounce).

I never said replace, I said ...

Possibly replace, if only replacing 9.9% of it. :p :D ;)

Trying to find if the new Nashville Network will be carried in Dallas-Fort Worth. Full page ads in the country Weekly magazines "available in most markets" The website watchtnn.com has a signup "Want to become an affiliate" but no LIST of affiliates. The affiliate relations phone number goes to a mailbox that's full, my local paper's TV news editor contacted them - no response. I sent email to their website address and email over Facebook. No response. Is this any way to relaunch a major branded network?

The only affiliate that has been announced for TNN is WSMV/Nashville. I guess they're trying for a soft launch, announcing their affiliates after they go on the air (tomorrow?)

Regarding KCTV5 and CBS discouraging subchannels, KCTV is not a CBS O&O. While most CBS O&Os shied away from subchannels for some time (although as Scott says, that's ceasing to be the case), I know of quite a few independently-owned CBS affiliates which have had subchannels for years. Including my local here in Nashville (2 SD subs), the station I used to work for in Madison (one sub), and the affiliate in Milwaukee. (2 subs)

WSMV lit up 4.2 at 12:45 this morning -- since TNN itself doesn't launch until midnight, right now we're running the "Coming November 1st" slate.
