TNN THE NASHVILLE NETWORK have viewers scratching thier heads on launch

For all the talk about subchannels on this board, I don't personally know anyone who watches any of these channels, which is anecdotal. Does the average viewer even know about subchannels?

It seems like they've been around long enough to have some data on how many people are watching, and who they are.

I assume its people who don't have cable or cut the cord and use a variety of OTA and online/streaming to watch television.

If it lands in Boston I could see it on WBIN 50.3, replacing what used to be Cool TV (and now is duplicating programming on the main channel). They already run "Crook and Chase" on the weekends, and 50.3 already has clearance on Comcast systems in the Boston area.

Most people I know who watch subchannels (other than broadcast fanatics like those of us on the boards) catch it on cable by mistake. For example, my father discovered This TV only by flipping through channels and seeing a movie he liked. Otherwise he wouldn't have known it existed.

Does anyone know how WKFK-TV in Pascagoula, Mississippi is handling programming from the Nashville Network?

I watch Me-Tv, Antenna Tv and even got into Bounce to watch old episodes of Soul Train and Fat Albert. However, most of us here are not "normal" in the sense that we are all more interested or involved with broadcasting than the average Joe out there that just clicks on the boob tube.

Most cable subscribers aren't aware of their local OTA subchannels because their cable outlets would rather leave their customers in the dark about such things. Think about it, how many cable subscribers out there have a backup plan with their cable goes out? How many actually think about attaching a set of bunny ears to their set like back in the stone age? I'd say 85%+ would just stare at a blank screen until their cable service returns than think of pulling in tv OTA and the cable companies like it that way. :)

I think thats more of an indication that most people trust the general reliability of services like cable. If it goes out from time to time, the service will return soon. Its probably not worth it to most people to worry about missing a show or two once or twice a year to have a back up plan for picking up TV.

I think there's also lot of viewers who think OTA doesn't even exist anymore. People say they don't get TV because they "don't get cable". Consumers, all too often, seem to think that the DTV transition was the elimination of OTA - and "no more rabbit ears" news stories didn't help.

TNN's website says the WSMV Nashville affiliate is on channel 91 on Charter. I'm the area that should get it, but it has yet to appear on my cable. Maybe it will soon.

What area are you in?

Don't have an affiliate in ATL, GA. Wanted to see how the launch went and if anyone has any comments yet on the programming.
