To All New Orleans Talk Show Hosts

I came across this blog from Jay Marvin. While it deals with the Conservative / Liberal talking heads, it is still applicable to radio in New Orleans, and maybe Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, and other towns as well.

How many people listen to Bob & Monica, Spud, Garland, Rob & Bo, Andre, Jim Brown, Garey & Anthony, Eric, Kaare and other talk hosts out of habit. You used to listen to radio hosts because you didn't want to miss something. You didn't want your co-workers to say "Did you hear what so-and-so said", and not know.

In New Orleans radio, everything is the same, and it's filled with non-personalities. Whether that's because the "Radio Gods" at Entercom and Clear Channel said you can't be a personality, or because 690 can't develop personalities, for whatever reason, it's sad.

WWL gives us news and information. The talking heads are interchangeable. Do you really care if it's Tommy Tucker or Spud on the air? Todd Maneses or Garland? The fishing guy or Bob & Monica? No, it doesn't matter.

And who really cares about Rob & Bo, Jim Brown, Garey & Anthony, Eric or Kaare? Nobody. They could go away tomorrow and no one would care about any of them.

Get some personality. Entertain us. You don't have to be controversial, but give us a reason to listen.

Sorry for rambling. Here's the link:
