Why is Univision's website in Spanish only? Do you feel that's fair for English speaking people who want to check out the site?

Its the same "illogic" why Spanish Televison doesn't have SAP channels in english for curious english speaking viewers. Univision cites costs. Translated; " we only serve the spansih speaking community, therefore we don't need english". Apply that to its website. No wonder there are barriers when it comes to community.

The site is essentially for promotion of the TV nets, and 100% of the TV programming is in Spanish.

Our English langauge radio stations have English sites. For example, http://www.thebeatsa.com/ is the one for The Beat in San Antonio.

I think they should suck it up and cross-translate. Heck, Mun2, SiTV and a few others do it, why not Univision?? Build the bridges, dont knock em down :)

Great point! And a great way for non-Spanish speakers to learn Spanish. Or, does Univision not care about the non-Spanish-speaking population? ???

Dai, They maybe relaying hidden messages about the impending invasion in those odd "Kids as adults" shows they have on sunday nights ;)

Some of those shows on Telemundo and Univsision are closed capitoned in English, but you have to have CC3. My TV only has CC1 and CC2. Meanwhile the dubbed cartoon from Qubo that air on Telemundo are Closed Capitioned in English. ;D

I know enuff Spanish to know EnVivo means Live so I know how to listen to the internet stream of LaKalle 105.9 even those this Unvision owned Reggaeton formatted station has a site all in Spanish.

I almost called the toll free number for Sabado Gigante the other night but knew it would have been a waste of time.

The number of and potential for listening (or viewing) of Spanish language media by non-Hispanics is enormously and fabulously limited. Most of the audience for Spanish language media is first and second generation Hispanic. In radio, it tends to be nearly all first generation with a few exceptions.

The cost of doing websites that would not be viewed or doing translations that would not be listened to would be enormous, with no gain on the tremendous expenditure of time.

Mun2 and others you mention are aimed at bilingual or English dominant Hisapnics, and that makes enormous sense. For media aimed at Spanish dominant Hispanics it makes little sense as nobody really benefits.

Wow! Talk about a segregationist point of view! "For media aimed at Spanish dominant Hispanics..." You just confirmed what we all already knew. ;)

The FCC should require all broadcasting in English.

This is an English speaking country. Anybody who does not want to learn and speaking English does not belong in this country.

The only good thing about Spanish language television are the soft-core porn soap operas and the hot bodies on the actresses. Do them English. They might get good numbers.

Otherwise, all foreign language television does is to enable non-assimilation and keep people out of the economic mainstream and in the under class. If they are willing to risk their lives to sneak in, they should be willing to go to the trouble to learn English.

Have you ever heard of My Network? That's their whole format. They're, well, not doing so good, even with plenty of hot bodies running around. Meanwhile, Univision gets three times as many viewers for their most popular shows.

Not even touching the rest of your comments except to remind you that the US does not have an official language...and if they'd decided on one back at the Constitutional Convention, it most likely wouldn't have been English.

If only you guys could understand what they're saying on Univisions evening news broadcast! I've never seen such as biased and propagandistic broadcast that passes itself off as news. The top story almost every night involves a one-sided rabble-rousing report about the immigration issue and how those of us who disagree with the open borders movement are latino-hating xenophobes.

Not to mention a hard left bias on almost every domestic news story. It is really amazing - they manage to make Katie Couric look like Hannity by comparison!

If translated into English, it would be featured as "bias" on all sorts of websites and on CNN and FNC. This way, it's their own little "secret". But, its also the little-known way that so many people knew to show up for the immigration protests last summer.

Univision is shameless in their one sided coverage of the issue. Squarely aimed at the lowest common denominator of viewer, I might add. The Latino members of my family are offended by the one-sided nature of it - but, then again, they are more educated than the average Univision viewer.

To be fair, at least they play the middle ground on Castro and Chavez. But, that's only because they have to because many viewers are from Cuba and Venezuela and left home because of those guys. They'd never get away with leaning left on those issues and they know it.
