To HDR16 or not

Hello to all. I have been reading about this radio and I'm seriously interested. This would be my 6th radio. hahahaha LOL I have the DT160, the CCEP, the CC skywave, the pr-d9 which hardly works and the srf59 walkman. So I was thinking about maybe off loading the pr-d9 and maybe the cc skywave to get some amazon credit. I hardly use the skywave. I'm really not into shortwave or weather band stuff. I'm happy with the AM audio of the EP, srf59 and the dt160 in that order. So I need help from you radio nerds. What should i offload to get this thing? I'm thinking of staying with the EP, dt160, srf59 and the hdr16. So who has this radio and what do you think? I really miss my prd-15 and the fm reception that thing had.

I don't have it, but the reviews I've read say it's like a PRD-15 or PR-D5 with HD added to it.

You may get less battery life than the PRD-15 because of the HD chip. But I would lay money down it's the same radio as the other two, just with the HD chip added.

Hopefully someone here who has the HDR-16 will chime in with their observations. I was going to get one but they took a bit of time getting it out to market, and right now money is a bit tight.... I already have enough radios, anyway.

The HD 16 is a great radio. The HD mode sounds great and it is nice having those extra channels. AMis not as great as the PR 5 and 15 but it iclose.Great sound from the speakers. It takes 4 c cells instead of 6. I also have too many radios, but I do like the CCrane Skywave because of its size and the PR D7.

Man I can't wait to get this radio. I sold the skywave and some beats headphones i had for amazon credit to get it. :) I'm going to Altamonte on Friday but don't think I'll be able to order it in time to take it up there with me. But hopefully next week that radio will be mine. :)

Wallmart supposedly carries them,
and how can you beat that convenience?
I might set foot into one this week.

I think Walmart only carries them via their online ordering / local pickup option. Unless that has changed in the last couple weeks.

Eventually I may get one for the HD.... but that will be a long ways off.

Good luck with your purchase, AustinGrace, and I hope enjoy the radio when you get it.

You have to wait a week to pick it up from walmarts around here. :( Believe me, if there was one available I would have had it.

Did they travel to Detroit to nab this?
Oh, these calls are no longer in Detroit.
Or anywhere!

Well I'm hdr16ing it on Wednesday as fast as amazon can get it to me. :) Man I have not been excited for a radio in years until this one. So just to keep track here. I now have the CCEP, the sangean dt160 and the srf59. I'm keeping the pr-d9 around as a weather radio. So I will have 5 radios. That is enough for me. That dt160 is a really good radio. It has that sangean fm reception in a small package. FM is really good on there and AM is not too bad. Not EP or CC2e quality but it is decent. That srf59 is seriously underrated. Both an AM and fM but that thing is like a car radio on AM almost.

HDR16 will be here Friday!!!!!!! So stoked!!!!!

Austin, I think you will be pleased, especially if there are HD stations near you.Let us know your first impressions. Like you I couldn't wait till my radio arrived.I have had mine for a month and I love it. I am going on a train ride from Philly to Florida on Sunday And I am sure I'll. be the only one listening to an actual radio receiver along the way.

Man it's like Christmas 2 months late over here. ahahha Hoping the mail man makes an early run with my package. LOL So what is this radio compared to a CCEP or a 2E? I hear AM is better on the CC radios but FM is prd15 range. If that is the case, that is fine with me.

AM is very good, not top tier like the EP and the PR D5 and 15. Comparing selectivity and sensitivity on the Crane EP and the Sangeann 5 15 and 16.There is a 10,000 watt AM station two miles from here on 1070.WBAL at 1090 is 140 miles away. The Sangeans, including the 16 can pick it up.The EP can't. FM on the 16 is stellar. AsI said the HDR16 is a great receiver.

Wow guys. I have only been able to play with it for a half an hour and I'm impressed. I think this radio will be keeping me up now. LOL The FM reception is amazing on this thing. To give you an idea, I was able to get the 92.5 hd2 here in Brandon. Same with 97.1 hd2. So what am stations broadcast in HD that I could try to hear? I can hear 540 from Orlando with this thing without too much trouble. Now to learn what buttons do what and how the menu system is laid out. LOL I know the main buttons but not sure of the buttons to the right of the 2 scan buttons.

Austin, thought you would be impressed. The buttons to the right of the HD seek are the menu and Info buttons. I've had mine for a month. As I said I am traveling to Florida from Phi!!y by train Sunday. Looking forward to listening to all the signals.

I will probably be the only one listening to a radio. It sounds great with headsets. I was in Tampa earlier this month and I couldnt find any AM HD stations

I have had receivers before and expect this one to program similarly, except I do not remember my older models syncing their clocks to local stations.
I do not believe this radio has "artist experience" which amounts to showing pictures of album jackets on the display.
It does however, have RDBS, meaning that many analogue stations will show their formats, call letters, station names, an artist field, and a title field.
Many of thease HD chips also decode Compatible Quadrature AM stereo, but you will be extremely hard-pressed to find an analogue AM stereo station in this country.
I am still curious about what "Automatic Multicast Re-Configuration" and "Automatic Simulcast Re-Configuration" are all about, so please tell me.
If this were NYC, I would surely have multiple HD radio receivers and would only listen to them for their unique content.

 I H8 UPS.
They were here today,
but the front door at my condo stays locked,
and they did not call my phone,
so we will have to try again on Monday.

Hello to all!!!!!! This radio is a winner. If you don't have it and you are thinking of getting it, then just go do it already!!!!! Well worth the $99 on amazon!!!!! I think the AM reception actually beats the EP. I think it is as good as the 2e. That is just my opinion BTW. The FM is the best i Have ever heard from a portable radio!!!!! God I love this thing. I'm so stoked to dX with it.

Hello benale. I have a question for you. Do the menus rap? Like let's say if you leave a menu and come back will it come back to the beginning? Also how many clicks does it take to get to the mono/stereo setting? That is the only thing I'm really interested in. Also where is the reset option? I read the manual but the manual is no help to a blind person like myself trying to learn the menus.

Well guys!!!! I can say without a doubt this is by far the best radio I ever owned. I have gotten a station I have never heard before. At about 1130 Saturday night I got WOAI. Keep in mind this is in an apartment. This radio is so good, it got wpoz 88.3 from Orlando next to WMNF 88.5 a really strong local. I actually got the HD to come in on 94.5 from Orlando and even the HD 2 came in. I love this radio!!!!! It got me back into dXing for sure!!!!!
