to jingle or not to jingle that is the ?

With oldies radio taking major shots from the Jack format flips.....which rely heavily on liners (usually well thought out and funny)...but always felt that gave a dry sound to the station...........
I go back to Jerry Clifton's WXLO 99X..with the infamous shotgun jingle.
One jingle for everything....the amazing thing is the listeners loved it...it is rare that jingles get requested.......moving on....do you think the time has come for the one jx approach and lots of personality and a wider 60-70-early 80s mix. Can the same theory of 30 years ago work again...I am interested in all comments.....I know about JAMS PAMS TM etc. I am talking concept....I am a former group PD, on the air again weekends and providing imput to my current station-thanks for taking the time........

Personally, I like jingles. Great way to break things up and change tempos etc.
