No the Country format went to 1260. The WAME calls went to Charlotte and the Charlotte calls (WWOK) came here to 1260. WWOK had been a Country station in Charlotte. I believe 1550 kept the calls WRIZ and later changed to WRHC.

I don't have any info on what WAME 1260 Miami format was in the 1950's but I'll bet if you went to the Dade or Broward library and looked though the newspapers on microfiche from the 1950's you could find out the format of WAME and other stations.

For example with the help of a kind man at the Broward library I found there was a WFTL-TV Channel 23 on the air for awhile in 1954-1955. It was the second TV station in South Florida. I found out a few little things but questions remain and the man was not able to do any more research for me. So the next time I'm down there I will try to do that myself. It's hard to do that from here in Charlotte!

HEY MIKE:

I GOT YA NOW!! THANKS FOR CLEARING THAT UP FOR ME. THANKS FOR THE INFO. I JUST WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE LIBRARY AND DO THAT!! I DIDN'T REALIZE THEY HAD THAT KIND OF INFO THERE!!

THANKS AGAIN

Glad to help! Just remember there are no books on the subject that I know of. It will all be in the newspaper archives.

Back in 1983 WSOC-AM here in Charlotte was celebrating their 50th anniversary but had nothing of the station's history. I went to the library and did some digging. I was able to find some articles and newspaper ads from when the station first went on the air. I scored some brownie points with the GM of the station for that!
