To Play or not to Play Beyonce....

The new Beyonce Track..."Best Think I never Had" is a perplexing one...It seems to be climbing at a decent rate...this really surprises me...I don't see the love for it. It is the follow up to a complete flop (Run The World)...The digital sales have not been great. As far as I can tell...I don't see a ton of people in love with this song...I am wondering what gives...is it just the beyonce name or what...Most singles I can usually see why they succeed or not.

It sounds like a typical mid-level hit to me.....one of those songs that you don't really LOVE, but you wouldn't change the station if it came on.

Agree with this...plus digital sales could rise as more stations increase the rotation (or not) - but I don't think there's any harm in playing it

Ahhh MUCH better than her previous single!
I'm also liking "California King Bed" by Rihanna, too. We need some new artists with that type of sound.

I'm not even sure about how the timing of the release for California King Bed was planned out. Another song of hers was released around the same time, which I believe is still sort of drowning out California King Bed. What's interesting is that at first, I thought "Man Down" wasn't going to be successful, but now it seems as if it's beating "California King Bed"! I've never understood why people released songs that way - there would be a big hit, then you'd start hearing a follow up single that you begin to believe is the main official single, but just when you think it's taking off, you also hear another single surpass it (then sometimes that other song you thought was going to be a second single ends up really being a big third single).

I also never understood how things happen, like when Pitbull's "hey baby" was released; It started off rising slow, and just when I thought it was dying, that's when it started to blow up. As a result, the song, overall, was able to achieve a long life span. I even remember our local station(s) picking it up last year, playing it a little bit, then it seemingly disappeared for a while before it popped back into the playlist and began receiving high spins (in addition to being added to a bunch of stations across the U.S. around the same time it 'came back' on our local station).

Not really feeling the last couple of hits from Beyonce.
As for Rihanna's "Man Down", it's one of my favorite songs of the year so far

They had planned it out so that California King Bed could be serviced to CHR/Pop stations and keep her pop fans satisfied, and Man Down could be sent out to Urban/Rhythmic stations and keep those listeners satisfied. Thus, killing two birds with one stone. However, I guess things are starting to go in a direction they didn't expect.

That's what I figured. I know many artists have done this before. As far as the latest Beyonce track, it's beginning to grow on me fast! I'm starting to like it even more than before.

In a somewhat related subject; I wonder why Ciara released "gimme dat" to urban instead of rhythmic or chr? It flopped on urban, although V103 did play it quite a bit.
