to the Morning Mess:

Morning Mess,

First off, let me say I haven’t listened nor will I ever. I yanked my car antennae out sometime ago to get better reception for my XM radio.

No matter who you were, you would have been vilified when coming to this market. Jesus Chris could have come to Star 94 and people would have said “Hell that long hair, so seventies; sandals, so nineties. Pah!” (given that he got out of his 90-day noncompete with the Fish).

Back in the day (insert gesture to “aching back” here), we had Don Anthony’s wonderful yearly excursion to Las Vegas to assuage the heartache stemming from this job. Now, you're own your own. You won't get support here or within your own building-- at least nothing sincere.

So, briefly because I abhor long posts on this site:

Getting on the “news” doesn’t matter like before. Spend your time being relevant instead.
Be truthful because I think if you’re lying for the bit, nowadays, they’re gone.
Aircheck every day but don’t forget to point out the things you did right. Build on those, ditch the rest.
Did I mention be relevant to your listener?
Just keep plugging away.

All us old (and new) radio folks want you to fail. Nothing personal. We think we can do better. Cindy and Ray WANT you to fail. Nothing personal—it just ups their stock. If that bothers you, go work at The Gap.

Miss Anthrope (who’s lost a password)

Ps. Ditch the damn phone pranks (so eighties)

Morning Mess:
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of this board's advice has no basis more reliable than our own meandering experiences.

I will absolutely listen to Jesus Christ in the morning.
I bet Judas Iscarot does mornings at the competition....

No Judas wouldn't bother with terrestrial radio. He would no doubt be on Sirius Channel 101.

Nice. Your first sentence should've been your last. Everything else you wrote after that was a waste of your time.

I'd say drop the outdated the "Pranks on the 20" bit,
It is old school.

And the Dirty at thirty...Hollywood Gossip
Youve never been exactly on time with these bits since you've started.

Be more real and let the listeners know more about your personal lives.
And get to know your listeners and be topical to the issues in Atlanta.
Quit the generic cookie cutter radio bits.

Even Jesus Christ couldn't pass muster of the control freaks in Atlanta radio. He'd never make it on the air...in this
pre-Madonna-era, you know...

And, even though virtually everyone in Atlanta hated Steve and Vicki according to the 6,000+ RI posts stating
various disdains for the duo...I dunno how ANYBODY could succeed for long no matter what after them.

And no one over 35 is willing to admit that they listen to some guy named Phat---anybody.

If Star wants a different audience, they're going to get their wish. I am surprised LF would take this
move to a younger demo and try to sell the station since it's success was built on heritage. Maybe they'll
actually hit a number higher than the last two digits of their frequency...crazier things have happened.

Anybody heard what's being said inside Atlanta's #1 Hit Station Q-100?

And to those who are offering criticism to the Morning Mess in this topic:

-Give them a chance to even get settled before you start crucifying them. They've been on the air for a WEEK.
-Try being welcoming and inclusive, instead of wishing that they would fail from the start. We're all in this industry together.
-Don't expect this show to "know your city" after being on the air for a WEEK. Heck, their staff may still have some of their stuff boxed up from their move.
-Realize that Atlanta needed something -- anything -- new on the radio in morning drive. You got it with the Morning Mess.
-Only time will tell if the Morning Mess is a good fit for Star 94 and Atlanta. But that's the key phrase...ONLY TIME WILL TELL. So give 'em a break. ;)

Only on air a week but actually they've been in the Atlanta for quite a while. Everyone is a critic and has an opinion, like it or not! Gotta have thick skin in this business.

I was disappointed when I tuned in to the show especially after all the hype. Nothing new there and I agree, ditch the radio bits. It's been done to death! The station is definitely trying to target a younger audience.

Morning Mess...emphasize the Mess

Bad impression of Ryan Seacrest(Marco)...Kelly (RIP) Ripa(Shannon)...the other guy, who cares irrelevant! And that's not a good thing people! Eckkk....
It's ALL been done before kids, I was REALLY hoping for something new to bring to Atlanta. Not at all what I expected...Good luck!

Outside of aliens coming here and doing a show, you can almost say everything has been done before I guess. Now you are actually saying they ae just rip-offs of other people?

I didn't say that, I believe you did! After giving them a listen that was my impression and like I did say a BAD one. And it's just bad radio when you're still doing bits on the air. Come on we can do better than that! Is the cookie jar really empty when you reach in and try to grab some creativity or originality? I just think they were way oversold on the hype.
