1059 go -fm
107.9 kicker 108
104.1 (dont know but its country)

Smashed,... 104.1 is in Mobile, AL. It used to be the AWESOME mainstream CHR known as HOT 104, programmed by (radio name and midday guru) Ted Striker. I had the pleasure to work with him at B-97 for a few weeks. He is a programming genius, really!!! Michael Brian, A-PD under John Roberts, brought him in temporarily to do weekends with me.

Well, he's at KISS in Seattle, WA doing weekends. Cumulus screwed him over,... poor dude. Whatta shame... weekends.... He brought ratings to that station that it hadn't seen in years as 3 million other formats failed. They were even beating out 97.5 WABB, the heritage CHR over there!! Crazy! Then Hurricane Dennis or one of them blew down the 1950' tower they shared with a Mobile tv station. They came back on with an STA in the same transmitter location with low power between Mobile and Pensacola. Because the temp. tower was so short and the signal was so weak in the metros, the ratings fell and they gave him and the rest the axe. Got it back up and on full power and flipped it to Kicks Country (or something to that effect). Cumulus has ben known to do stuff like that....

Well, yeah! I heard Citadel rocked so hard, they brought down the "106-7 The End" tower! Must've been the heavy compression and over modulation for rock music!

But actually from what I understand, that tower never fell. You could see it on a clear day looking eastward in Jesuit Bend. After Katrina, it was still there, just ravaged! They said a willow tree that was near the transmitter house fell on it, put a giant hole in the roof, and ruined everything inside. That's why they were off so long.

Jeremy

put a giant hole in the roof

It's even better: the original KKND building was on poles about 12' above ground and had neatly survived the storm that everyone now forgets about (Georges). Katrina managed to shove a tree through the *side* of the building, which subsequently shoved the transmitter and other contents out the other side and into a watery death.

Saw pix of the giant crane mounting the new KKND building even higher on the now heavily-reinforced mounting poles. It's a work of art that took a lot of work and time.

And yes, the tower and antenna stood. Not much else down the "End of the World" road did, see Chris Rose's great column about the area http://www.nola.com/rose/t-p/index.ssf?/rose/katrina/the_end_of_the_world.html
