Today in iHeart news

In a joint deal with Cumulus media, iHeart Radio has introduced three nationwide formats which will be heard on many of the stations owned by both companies.

The Legend is based on the music collection of classic country WBRF-FM Galax VA, whose DJs will now be heard nationwide spinning their tunes and talking about the music and artists, without a station ID. The format is 24/7 but the FM station will air only some of the programming as it goes local for sports, religious programming, bluegrass music, Charlie Brown's "On the Beach" and other special programs. The co-owned AM will air all of the programming, which will be all music if the FM is not simulcasting. All markets with at least one Nash station will replace a Nash format with The Legend, and in all iHeart markets (except Greensboro NC where Galax is located) where country music is popular which do not have a Nash station, an iHeart station will air the format.

The Great Songs originates on WAVO Charlotte NC, owned by GHB Broadcasting. That station's standards format will be heard nationwide on Cumulus and iHeart stations where a comparable format cannot be found. Unlike America's Best Music, this is primarily a standards format, where oldies which were not on standards radio in its early days and AC are the exception rather than the rule.

The Dam is an active rock format which was once used by Cumulus station WCMG Florence SC. Cumulus and iHeart markets without active rock will have The Dam on one station. The music is primarily 90s-style alternative with some 80s-style metal. WRXZ Myrtle Beach, which covers Florence, will be the flagship station.

By the way, what is today?
