Today Show 60th Anniversary

I'm surprised nobody commented on the widescreen W2XBS New York test pattern mockup they ran at the top of the 8am hour on the Today anniversary show. Not just an anachronism because of the widescreen aspect ratio (we'll forgive them that) but because W2XBS was 11 years in the past when the Today show debuted. The camera in the studio window shown immediately afterward displayed WNBT calls - which was actually correct for the mocked-up Dave Garroway opening they did.

Okay, it's official. I'm a geek.

''"but because W2XBS was 11 years in the past""

I pointed out that same fact to my wife as we were watching it live and she gave me a
Ho-Hum look.

Frank Blair wrote an excellent, albeit painful autobiography, "Let's Be Frank About It" (Doubleday, 1979) that actually can be found at amazon.com where used copies are available for $4.73. It covers well much of the first three decades of Today, including his own alcoholism. Blair retired in 1975 and passed away in 1995 ...

Perhaps I can finish this post as the late Dave Garroway would finish his Today shows ...

"Peace."

Probably the same look I got from my wife when we were watching "Quiz Show" and they had the set decorated with TK-11s bearing "WNBT" designs, long after WNBT would have become WRCA-TV...

Well, count me as on your side. I think that kind of historical accuracy is important. Personally, I wouldn't have noticed that...I'm a bit of a TV nerd, but not quite to that level. But I've been a super car-nerd from infancy, and it irritates the crap out of me to see historically inappropriate cars in movies and TV shows.

My favorite to this day was the 1955 Chevy Army Staff car I saw in a movie set during World War II
