Today's Actors in Classic TV Series

Just a few living actors that would have been perfect for old TV series if they were featured today.

R. Lee Ermey- Archie Bunker (All in the Family)

Wanda Sykes - Florence ( The Jeffersons)

David Caruso - Sgt. Joe Friday (Dragnet)

Jenny McCarthy - Honey West

* Feel free to add more!

I can see 2 and 4, but not 1 and 3. (Although it would be a hoot to see Caruso put the shades on and launch into one of Joe Friday's dope lectures.) I could see Gunny playing one of Archie's old Army buddies, though.

...silly idea, I know, but this one just sent me into some hard laughter:

Ashton Kutcher in Branded

Has this ever worked? Ever?

Alex O'Laughlin ain't Jack Lord.
Edward James Olmos ain't Lorene Greene.
Steve Martin ain't Phil Silvers
Mel Gibson may be a lot of things but he ain't James Garner (he's not even Jack Kelly).
Al Bundy ain't Jack Webb.

You can't go home again.

Any series succeeds because of time and place and the chemistry between the concept and the cast. You could do another cop show set in an exotic location and cast O'Laughlin, Scott Caan and the rest of the current cast and it could work. You could even do Hawaii Five-O: The Next Generation with this cast playing different characters. But they won't ever be Jack Lord and James MacArthur.

The only way this sort of thing could work is to be the "anti" or the reverse of the orginial such as the Brady Bunch Movie for example. That movie was so far far out there, it was funny and it worked.

The Flintstones..had the movie with John Goodman & Rick Moranis somehow would had "merged" with the porno "The Flintbones" with Ron Jeremy playing Fred which had came out at around the same time BTW..chances are the result would had been a "sexy soft-core R rated comedy..from Bedrock"..I bet that would had been a hit.

I know this is off the thread some, but do you think Jeff Bridges will do as Rooster Cogburn in the new True Grit?

Jeff Bridges has certainly gotten crusty enough to play the part, and in my opinion, he's a more versatile actor than John Wayne, so he'll do fine, except for a few old codgers that can't get 'Duke' out of their heads. Wayne died 31 years ago, and the last Rooster Cogburn film was released 35 years ago.

Count me as one of the "old codgers" on here, but in my opinion nobody can replace John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn.

That's like having Brad Pitt play "Rick" from Casablanca or some other actor, than Gregory Peck, play the part of Atticus Finch in "To Kill A Mockingbird." Those movies, like "True Grit" are classics and should thus be left as they are and not be recycled.

With that said Jeff Bridges is a fine actor, but sorry Bridges fans I don't think he can fill Wayne's shoes in this role.

"The Family Guy's Brian Griffin as Snoopy..well they are both beagles"

Ummm, Brian Griffin as Barney in How I Met Your Mother--hey, they both like bars and drinking and they're both dogs (Brian in more ways than one)...
