<font color=3333ff>Wooo hoooo!! To start: As usual CC has the perfect Urban-sell package. Power drops, Hot back up!! I LOVE THIS! Kicklighter, you're a idiot :) Time for a blackout haha, and go back to the north pole, cuz the nawf nawf don't want it!

Besides that, if you look at books across the country, AC, Top 40/M and Country are UP, so it's no surprise that Kix came out on top. AC and Country are up everywhere. Urban and Rhythmics generally are down.

According to the report on AllAccess, I don't see Q107-5 anywhere this time. I'm guessing that Power 99 took the most people from Q. With Power hurting Q, I could see a return of the Pig.

> This just goes to show you that there is room for another country station in Memphis to kick Citadel's ass. KIX 106 is prime to take a hit, if someone had the balls to make the move.

Let's see who the suspects could be:
1)Infinity could lose WFMS-Fm, it's going nowhere and go country legends. Better yet, it should change FM 100, because it's done, the talent is stale and their heyday is over. It would be a powerhouse country station in the entire mid-south. This would require a gusty move, one that no one in that building is willing to make. Terry and the management is just waiting for the day Infinity sells the market.
2)WHBQ-FM, Their listeners all went to Ipods, because they are bored with the sophmoric presentation. It's toast, over, never was in the first place. Their signal limitations make it a tough putt for any format. George should just do the same thing with the other stations he owns outside of Memphis, LMA them to real broadcasters.
3) Clear Channel should admit that classic rock is going the way of Oldies. Their demo is aging and how many times can you hear Freebird. They should go country classics and keep the morning show.
4) The Max is minimal, even with Drake & Zeke. This was a bad move for them to am drive, they sound tired, bored, testy, pick one. They should go country legends on this signal and really own the market.

This is the first time in a long time that a non-urban station has been number in the market, in one of the highest black metros in the country. Kudos to Citadel.

I can't believe some of the suits at the major companies can't do the simple math. Let's see, I'm sucking wind in Memphis with a 1.8 and Kix has
That's what I think. But what do I know?

92.9 Jack-FM. If the Memphis Infinity stations are really for sale, they're stupid if they don't do that RIGHT NOW. Or as you say, maybe county legends.

Deal, FM100 was up in 12+ at least. Question is, are they still billing well?
The Catch 22 is, wouldn't they have to drop the weekend thing at 100 to help 92.9 if they Jacked it?

There seem to be several prime candidates for Mr. Jack after this one.

Yes, but let's see where everyone is next book. what is this book, Revenge of the Caucasians?

In all seriousness, how in the hell do we only have ONE Country station in this market? The market is MORE than Shelby County, and the only other options you have here is KWYN 92.5 in Wynne or KFIN 107.9 Jonesboro.

If someone got serious and had a better mix of country, they could HURT KIX.

According to the report on Radio and Records, WHBQ-FM is at the same place as WCRV. That's close to nowhere though.

Man I hope we don't lose Q. It is our only pop station. It sounds good. It is just a tough market. Maybe if it hangs around another month it will come back up in the numbers. What happened over the last year? It was doing so good this time last year.

I think today's book shows the lowest 12+ numbers ever for the 560, 680, and 790 frequencies.

I'm certain that 680 has never been below a 1 share in the history of ratings for Memphis.

Congratulations to 600, 1070 and 1340 for continuing to be a force in Memphis radio.

Who would have ever thought that frequencies like 1030 would have twice the number of listeners as 680, 560 or 790.

Seeing as how we all live and die by those 12+ numbers,I add my congratulations. The sheer FORCE of those stations you mentioned in Memphis should make all stand up, take notice And bow to the winners. To the victors go the spoils. Mea maxi mea culpa.

That's a great observation on Memphis radio history. Anybody know if any other markets boasts any non-talk AM stations still doing as well as WDIA and WLOK?

While there are several stories that pop looking at the limited numbers we get (e.g., the listeners are as unimpressed with 98.1 as radio people are), I really think that WLOK is among the most striking.

Here we have a "local" channel AM that got attacked by an FM (albeit a Class A), and has managed to hang on, and slowly build back. They are not too far off the pre-WHAL numbers at this point.

Gilliam and gang should be PRAISED (not pun intended, really) for fashioning a relevant, connected station that remains important and compelling to its listeners. It shows there remains space in the industry for locally-owned, locally-minded radio.

Indeed, DIET COKE is it? I hate it when the bosses are ALL away, and I can't get to Maximizer, to know anything at all! All number bashing aside, did anyone hear Leon's interview with Paul Hendon, president of "Sons & Daughters of the Confederacy" yesterday? The guy was on for over 2 hours. Love or hate the station, that was great radio! But, since 12+ says apparently, I was the ONLY one who heard it! (LOL Thankfully, I am an adult between 25 and 54...) Any "O Brother, Where art thou?" fans would have enjoyed Paul amazing similarities to "Homer Stokes". He even looked the part! It was good stuff, no matter what 4 people heard it! CFKane

It's been steady sliding down since this time last year. Power 99 might have had something to do with that. Or, maybe all the kids that should be listening all have ipods, and these numbers reflect the people still left...maybe they all started listening to Kix??

Diet Coke it is, but I gave you until next July. Didn't hear the interview, but heard through the vine it WAS good radio.

I can't see how you can find anything good even in the demo with a 12+ like that, but please feel free to share what you can.

Actually, without being able to be specific, there's growth, granted, these numbers are small, but were essentially non existent before the flip. On a completely unrelated note, There's a store, where DIET COKE or BEER can be purchased, you know the one, on 2554 A. St, the store's overall revenue, was up about by more than double what it had in the register, last quarter. (Still very small purchases though.)

I would love to know how much time the consumers are spending shopping, too. Strangely, the Super Walmart across the street, though making money hand over fist, is not selling as much beer, at that location, as it was last quarter. Only a miniscule dip in beer sales, but, still down, as if effected, by the store across the road. Retail is a very weird business. I think the store that sells saddles, and Cowboy Boots, is the one laughing all the way to the honkytonk. WHOO BOY! CFKane

Re: Diet coke is it?

12+ is everybody! Are you that stupid? You are barely scratching the ratings. You are .2 ahead of an out of market country station total audience. Get real. Thats like saying that you only have 100 listeners but 60 of them are 25-54!! Big whoop your talking about an AM that makes no difference in the market. Almost half the country votes democrat but they do not care about talk radio. They do like documentaries though. Make a michael moore movie or something.
Please somebody talk about how cool it is to see a new #1 in the market Kix 106 or how FM100 is back in the top 10 after a long slump in the ratings. For once the memphis ratings don't look as sad for non ethnic stations. Truly a couple more urban stations would help even the field in the ratings. Memphis does have a hole for another country station 9 and a half shares this book. I like the people at the max but I am worried for them. Not alot of pie to eat.

HAHA!

You guys crack me up. The radio IQ of my left shoe.

What you dont seem to understand is Jack FM is a cume based format... meaning it needs a BIG stick! With a 6,000 watt pea shooter you need a passion format. A station that people will put tin foil around their antenna for. 93X is fine... at least until Howard is gone. Then ALOT of Infinity rock stations might be in for a bit of it. Considering most of these rock stations have built their station around him and only him. Do you guys listen to 93X? We have a very strong local appeal. And the station is out EVERYWHERE.

The only way we as broadcasters can compete with all of these other modes of media is to make sure we are in the face of our local audience and keep it local. We should broadcast to them, not at them.

that will be all.

I think your HEat Seeking Car Deal is an awesome promotion. It builds your local appeal. It puts you out everywhere.
Major Kudos from this promotions guy!

ROFL

I had to read it twice before I fully understood it, but great post!

The big question; Are those retail sales going to support the higher overhead for this new store?
